I am looking at a 2010 ford f450 utility truck with a v-10 gas. I was wondering what everyone was getting for fuel mileage and how many miles you can get out of them before it has to have major repaires. My current truck is a 2011 ford f250 with a 6.7 diesel utility which gets roughly around 14 mpg's. I know every one is going to give me greif about this but this truck is cheap and my current truck is overloaded and filled up. I am also tired of it gelling up in the winter even after it has treated fuel in it.

The last one we had at work ran 7.2 to a high of 8 mph. I haven't drive the one we have now, but it is not new, just a longer bed than the last one. V-10 auto, but they pull as good a a diesel.

Right now the dash on mine at work says 2.6 mpg but it rarely ever gets about 35mpg and spends 95% of its time idling running the bucket. Haven?t had it very long but it seems like a good truck

It?s getting 2.6 mph it must be loaded with your foot to the floor accelerating pulling a trailer.

Mine on a real good day gets 10 on the highway empty, but more like 6-8. My Chevy with the 454 carrying more weight will out pull and out run the v10 and gets around 9 mpg. Drive the ford -- mine has around 46000 miles on it and needs a complete front end rebuild. I was gonna have it done but I think I'll just send it down the road.

I have a 2001 f-450 4x4 with the v-10 and get about 9mpg. It is a single cab with a l box on it and a 9ft dump bed. Empty weight is 10,000 lbs. It has 62,00 miles on it, and I bought it used with 52,000 on it. The only problem so far was the front wheel bearing. Starts right up at -10 below. Not the fastest thing in the world but with it loaded you don't need to be a race car driver? I live in Colorado and it is required to have commercial insurance on it. Its a little more money, so find out from your insurance company what it will cost. Is it a 4x4? Good tires? What size rims? Things are not cheap for a f-450, get it checked out before you buy.

I have a older F450 (95) with 460 non cat V8 and 6:34 (72 Dana rear end) and get 9.5 loaded. Truck weight 8,200lbs.,trailer 4,200lbs.,and tractor 8,000lbs.

This truck is a 4wd with i assume 19.5 tires. I wanted to get some input on it because it is 5 hours away. It also has a crane and 217,000 miles on it so i wanted to see how much farther it would go until it needed major repairs.

The following link is a good resource for owners of these trucks. They've helped me out with my 2000 F-250, lots of information there. I don't know my best MPG, only use the truck occasionally and try not to think about what mileage I'm getting.

I don't know if you guys are picking on purpose or what, but I realized the statement was fat-fingered right away, and what he was trying to say was:

The truck's lie-o-meter says 2.6 miles per GALLON, but that's probably because the truck is rarely driven as fast as 35 miles per HOUR, and spends 95% of its time sitting there at high idle running the bucket (you know, the thing that the man stands in that puts him up in the air so he can work on electrical/telephone/cable lines)...

I looked at a 2000 4X4 F350 with V10 auto with flat bed and just under 100,000 miles on it before buying the 95 F450. Not knowing anything about the V10 I went to the local Ford dealer and talked to the service manager and head mechanic and was told to stay away from the V10.I was told that the V10 noted for popping spark plugs out of aluminum heads and exhaust manifold bolts are small and rust out. You might want to check with your Ford dealer and see what he says.
