Tire height/width

Need rear tires for my 445 long: 14.9-28's is what's on there now.these things are expensive! What is the height /width difference if I were to use 13.6 or 14.2- 28's instead?l might be able to get some used 13.6-28's if it's close in height.

Most ag tires are an 80 aspect ratio, if I remember right. Meaning the sidewall is 80% as high as the tread is wide. A 13.6 is going to be about 1" shorter. 14.2 sounds like an industrial size.

I just checked with my old suppliers 14.9x28's should cost you close to $375.00 each put on the tractor at someone's shop. Tubes would be extra. I don't know where you found a 14.2x28. In 22+ years of selling hundreds of farm tires I never saw 1. 13.6X28's are gonna be shorter and narrower. You don't say how you are going to be using your tractor. To advise you we do need a little more info. Good luck.

Saw a 14.2 listed some where and no it's not a FWA tractor.i use it for bush hogging and a little row cropping but it's a high clear tractor so a few inches height won't make a difference

13.6 and 14.9 you are talking about 2 to 2.5 inches differance in overall height.
Where you might notice the differance is the 13.6 is about 1.5 inches narrower.

Unless you need the flotation of the wider tire you should notice little differance in the two tires.

14.9's are expensive. I had to buy one a year or two ago.
Tomorrow I could measure the actual difference in size between
a 14.9 and a 13.6 for you if needed. This picture shows the
difference between a 16.9 and a 11.2. Both 28 inch rims.
That 16.9 was a steering tire on a FWA tractor.
The shorter tire will lower your ground speed some.
That's not necessarily a bad thing for most tractors in reverse.

Yes if it's not too much trouble to measure it,thanks. You can never have too much flotation in
south La. but a little narrower won't hurt

It's no trouble it all as long as I remember to do it.
If I don't have it posted by early afternoon, please remind me.
My memory just isn't what it used to be. It will be really bad when I get old!

I think the circumference would me more equal on the Ford standard 24 rim 14.9 vs the 28 rim 12.4 or 13.6. I had 14.9x24s on a 4 cyl 4000 and 13.6x28s on a 4 cyl 2000 and side by side, they were right at the same height.

I measured my 14.9 x 28's, they are 14 inches across the tread
and 52 inches from the ground to the top of the tread.
The 13.6 x 28's are 13 inches across the tread and 47 1/2 inches
from the ground to the top of the tread. My 13.6's are not new,
but they have 60% or better tread left so no where near bald.
The 14.9's are new. Still have the numbers on the top of the tread.

Measurements would vary a little depending on the width of your
rim and probably vary a bit from brand to brand too.

Guess there's not enough difference in height or width the price will be the determining factor ,thanks guys
