I remember going to vocational school at the time the drinking age was lowered. The teacher made a comment that more kids were turning up sober in the morning the reply it wasn't as much when its legal.
Last month two kids on huber got busted for drinking on the job one would have been out in August but maybe he was just wore out from working.

The folks on this site probably know more about this than any other; My understanding is that with more and more states making pot legal, trucking companies are finding it difficult to find drivers who can pass a drug test, presumably for insurance purposes I would guess. Any truth in that?

around here everyone is having trouble finding help, seems they can't pass the drug test and it's not legal yet.

Federal law requires that companies have record of each driver passing a pre employment drug screen and they must be enrolled in a random drug pool. If a driver fails the random test they can't drive until they are able to pass.

Next thing you know they?ll be making it illegal to discriminate against using pot, then watch insurance premiums skyrocket!!!!!

New York state is probably going to legalize it soon. This state spends a fortune on anti smoking ads and programs and its going to be OK to put smoke from pot in your lungs. Its all about the tax money, not health as they would like us to believe.

I do not think making pot legal made a differance because they used it when it was illegal.

We pay around $30 a hour; have decent insurance and still can not find people.
But we do have strict hiring policies.

I think the fact that if my company truck has a burnt out tail light; the company may pay the ticket but the points go against my personal drivers license is more of a problem with finding drivers than pot use. Lots of older guys are getting out of driving from all the stupid regulations.
That and the new drivers coming into this field think driving a truck is sitting in the air condition holding a steering wheel. Heck anybody can do that. Then they find out how grueling this job can really be and decide there are easier jobs to be had.

Actually they have been having trouble with this for a long time. And it's not just drivers. My youngest daughter is a medical lab tech. Hospitals around the nation are having problems with finding workers who can pass a drug screen. What's funny is that
courts have ruled that even if it's legal a company has the right to refuse to hire you or fire you if you fail a drug screen.

Now for you guys that want to yell that legalizing pot is all about taxes in a way you are right but not the way you think it is. Look how much money the feds (DEA, FBI, US Marshals, USCG, the Military and federal money/equipment given to state and local police) spend on the war on drugs in general? Then add in what each state, county and local police spends. It's in the billions of dollars! And they haven't slowed it down! They are not winning the "war on drugs". All they are doing is making it profitable for those involved in the illegal drug trade.

No, I am not a user!

Not really.

How many government workers would be out of a job and suppliers of goods to all these government entities would go belly up if we totally stopped the war on drugs tomorrow.

I always thought the war on drugs was funny. How can you keep drugs out of a country when you can't even keep them out of a maximum security prison. Does anyone really believe this is possible?

I don't take any drugs. I think they are bad, with that said, I think they should just legalise them. Personal responsibility apparently is not allowed anymore.

Remember ....what was it maybe ten years ago. If you are a kid looking for a job and have peirceing or tats....no deal no hire. Today just forget it. Darn near every kid has enough ink in their skin to print a book.

Uhhh....pardon me fellers, but that "joint" has a filter on it.

Unless I'm mistaken, the thoughts that monkey is contemplating doesn't concern pot.

I think the pic is a cig, just makes the monkey appear as a bad dude, and contemplating something else on the dark side.

As to drugs, the war needs to be on attitudes, why the heck do so very many people want to get away from themselves so very badly?
Something wrong with people that they want to eascape so much.

Seems worse with the big shots in Hollywood, pro sports, music, etc. they got the world handed to them, and seems every single one is on
drugs and contemplating suicide.

The heck?

Grumpy people actually seem happy, if you look into it a little deeper. I complain about the weather, the govt, the neighbors, changing
landscape of the country..... I'm a grump. But that's because I'm actually pretty happy where I'm at. I don't want things to change much. I don't
really want more. I want what I have.

Take a closer look at old grumpy people. They are actually the happy shines bright people in society?

I think some people belly-ache a lot as a way of coping, much like throwing a fit after hammering on ones thumb or finger. It doesn't fix it bit it seems to ease the pain. gm

I"ve often wondered the same thing- why are people so unhappy with their lot in life that they resort to drugs? Never satisfied with anything, while others envy the freedom we have here, and the opportunities. So many stupid choices they make....

My company does background checks, does a hair sample drug test ,a general knowledge test, then an interview if all that passes.we might hire 10 people out of 60 applicants, when we really need to hire 15 or 20.
