Battery problem but sort of good

So I have this small battery problem. I get used batteries free by way of some one who works at an auto parts store. I give her old bad batteries and she brings me good used core batteries. My problem is most are the marine cranking batteries which are pretty big and do not fit in many of my tractors. Right now I have more batteries then I have machine to put them in which s also good. I'm thinking about building a few bolt on battery boxes for some of my tractor just so I can use these batteries

In my area many people will buy a new battery just because it sat over the winter. This gal checks them out and charges them and then load tests them. If she find a good one she sets it aside and lets me know so I then give her a core and she gives me a good used battery. She owns me any how since I board a couple of her horses and she is month behind on boarding fees

So you don't have a small battery problem, but in fact a big battery problem.

Be careful, if that was are local auto parts shop she would be canned for stealing.

How is that stealing?? She always replaces the core some one else brought in with a core I provide. All they care about is that they have core not the condition of the core. And yes did you notice I am not going into details as to where etc.

She to be exact is a D.A.V. She got blown up a couple times when she was in the army. From what she has said she was in Afghanistan and tripped an IED. She told me one time at first the guys did not want her around then they figured it out she was the one who tripped them so that saved them from getting hurt. By the way she would make 2 of me as in she is a big woman

We already know your favorite auto parts store. Not that I care. Glad you're getting a deal and the batteries get used.

I do that some with the shop at work. Generally, a semi has 4 group 31s. When 1 goes bad, usually all 4 get replaced. The take outs may last a month or so, or may last another year or more. I just swap out with them. These go in occasional use tractors. Better than having to keep swapping batteries between units

Well she does not work at a local store LOL. Also the only reason O'Reilly's is the store I go to is because it is them or auto zone and well you go into auto zone and you ask for something odd they say what is that if they even say any thing and just stare at you. We only have 2 auto parts stores in town. So you pretty much have to shop there or drive 25 plus miles. When I moved here in 1980 I used NAPA more then O'Reilly's but that store closed back in the mid 80s

I live near a small town. Orreilleys and AutoZone moved in and closed down one that had been there for 30 plus years. We still have a napa and carquest. The carquest is owned by a farmer. Has a complete machine shop. It's pretty much the go to store even though it cost more.

Back in the 80s when I mover here both the NAPA and O'Reilly's both had machine shops. But with the many EPA regs. many of the machine shops that where around have long since closed. The guy who owned the NAPA store here got sick and because of that he sold the store and then it got moved then it closed up. Up till about 5 or so years ago it was O'Reilly's or nothing in this town

I just don't see how it could be stealing. There is just not a market for used batteries except for old guys like us who don't think you should just throw everything out.

I hate to see a good core go in for recycling.

Yes having a good used battery go to be recycled is a waste of things that we cannot replace down the road. That is one of the bad things that has happened to this nation people just throw things away that are still good just because they feel they need something new. Some of these batteries she has given me I have used not for over a year. And other then the size problem it is good to have around. Other then right now I have more batteries then I have tractor that I use. Ya I have more tractor but many I do not use much other then for back ups

Don?t see a thing wrong with what you?re doing they get a core for a core which is what they had to start with

People at the Lake of the Ozarks where Old is close to come down from the cities in the spring and their toys won't start so O'Reilly's gets a huge influx of (usually) deep cycle batteries as cores for new ones because they don't want to charge them. As long as Old's friend is sending the warehouse the correct number of core batteries there is no harm. The employees have first shot at all the good cores. Did it many times in my 20 years at OR.

On 44 acres I pretty much have the biggest needed. The IH584 is about the biggest I will ever need unless we have what happened in 2003 again and then I needed the Cat 950. It has not run in over 10 years and does need batteries but it also need a lot more then just that

Yes a lot of people with to much $$ that do not care how they spend it. But either way I will not say her name or where she works. And yes she always takes my cores before she brings me good ones

As of right now I HAVE MORE BATTERIES THEN I NEED but that can change in a heat beat. She just traded me with 3 more the other day. I think I have 7 right now out of tractors so sort of have 7 I am not using as such so I keep moving my solar charger around from one battery to the next to make sure they stay charged

When Interstate Batteries had a district warehouse here they used to check over all turn-ins and recycle the good ones with Econopower name on them $25.00 plus tax. (6 mo. war.) Now I would have to go to Ft. Worth to get one.

We had a rural mail carrier that was 80 years old. He didn't want to have battery trouble. We replaced his batteries when they were three years old. I would keep his cores and use them in my tractors. A lot of his batteries lasted eight years in my tractors.

He died four years ago. Now I have to buy batteries.
