Went to local JD imp. dealer Thur. to buy zero turn mower. Salesman came and took pics of my trade in, I picked the mower I wanted and let them know. One day went by, no return call. Called them again today no return call. I was tradeing a Farmall H w/belly mower and/or a Farmall cub that all is in good cond. Was this wrong color for a trade to a green dealer or they just don't need the business?? I will not beg cause there are others out there.

Wondering if you would come out better selling your tractor instead of trading it in? I would love an H with belly mower! Dealer may not. Love our cub. Dealer sees an old tractor.

This H has darn good rubber, power steering w/uncut hood. 6ft artsway mower. Nothing wrong with either one. If interested I will post on classifieds and/or photos.

The dealers any more hardly want to talk to you unless you are spending 500 grand case ih is no different . Personally you?d do a lot better selling your tractor than trading it in . I bought a 3020 John Deere diesel powershift new rubber new injection pump new 12 volt starter paid 2000$ out the door for it local case ih dealer had it he told me they don?t make any money selling this old junk anyway .

That IH "H" even with the belly mower is not a very hot seller. Maybe $1200-1500 around me. Maybe in other locations it will being more.

As for the salesman getting back to you. Did you call that salesman or just the dealership??? Call and leave him/her a voice message. If you do not hear back then you know directly he/they are not interested. The trouble with calling the dealership is often the message does not get to the salesman very timely. It is worse the larger the dealership.

Also the majority of JD salesmen are being paid on a percentage of net profit basis, so your trading in the IH "H" really makes it a not good deal for the salesman. The "H" will get marked with a low trade-in value so the original deal will show little to any profit. So the selling salesman will make little to nothing on the deal. Even on good lawn equipment sales your often only making $50-100 a sale. You can not spend much time doing that or you will starve.

Those tractors are just not interesting to implement dealers, too little money to be made, or might sit on lot for couple of years.

dealers here won't take lawnmower trades but they are so ez to sell on craiglist that i don't know why you would trade anything!

They're probably not getting back to you because the "vibe" you gave them was that you were expecting a huge allowance on either tractor towards the new machine. They expect when they come back to you with their offer of $500 trade in value, that you will blow your stack and they just don't want to deal with it.

Either of those tractors will go on the lot for $3000+ and sit there until some fool comes along and pays it, or they give up and send it off to a consignment auction where it will bring $500. They can't price it lower or take a lower offer. There's some universal dealer rule about that.

Suffice it to say they're not going to tie their profit up in a trade, so they're not going to give you anything for either tractor.

No matter what, he should get back to you, even if they don't want your trade. You could call and ask for the manager.

Have sent email and even called salesman but no answer or voice mail. They could shoot me an outrages price and up to me to pay or walk away. In due respect I think I deserve an answer.

I tried to trade balers with them back in the late 90s. I called from the cell phone while I was baling to see when they were going to get there to look at mine. The guy on the phone told me that somebody had just been here and looked at it. I asked what he thought? He launched in to a laundry list of what was wrong. I said "That's funny,I'm baling with it and nobody has been here looking at it.".

If it's anything like here I expect that the sales guy figures that you will get a price from him then will go buy it at Home Depot. Sales guy here I know at the JD dealership says he's glad he doesn't mess with lawn equipment. Says a lot of folks come, take up the sales man's time, then the next time they see that person is when they bring that Home Depot machine in for service or warranty.

And yea, here that's a 1K or less tractor. Dealers here are pushing guys into buying without trades and they themselves selling the old stuff on CL or via consignment auction. Go check out used tractors on Titan Machinery. 2 old tractors and both are overpriced. Farmall A and Ford 8N. The 8N is in Fargo (Morehead MN actually). They really don't want yer H or CUB.

I buy some older trade ins from a dealer about 100 miles from me.He wants them out of the area and only takes them if he has to.I'd guess if the person that traded in the old tractor
could have paid about the same money if they'd come in and dealt straight payment instead of trading. He says he doesn't want to sell an old tractor to customers local because they will expect the old tractors to have about the same warranty as his new ones and no matter how how many times he tells them AS IS once it breaks down he'll hear about it.So I buy them and he never hears about them unless he asks.

Cuby you have done your side since you left the salesman a direct message. He should follow up on it ASAP. Since he is not then he is in the wrong.

I was just straight with people. I would tell them straight up if I did not want their trade. I usually had my best cash price to give them at that time though. On a lot of stuff, like your tractor, the original owner can sell it for more than any dealer can get.

Your tractor would be one of those items. You might be able to get $2000-2500 out of it to the right buyer. Many will give more to buy a farm fresh items so to speak.

If that's it I understand why a salesman would walk away. Not worth the hassle. Top dollar would be in the $1,500 range. It's listed for $3,500.
