"I just passed a Jimmy and a White"

The GMC has a sleeper?! Could that be original? And that other truck is a White? What's the little engine doing, running a compressor for cooling?

This was taken in the mid to late fifties, judging by the cars in the background? Remember the P-I-E (Pacific Intermountain Express?) trucks that ran Hwy 30? We saw them when we went to grammas house in Blair Ne. Before I80 came into being. It’s been so long I don’t remember what brand or style of trucks they ran. Will have to Google it. At a truck stop in Sydney Ne there used to be an old International ‘bubble cab’ single axle cab over semi tractor with a bunk sitting there. The name on the door was a livestock hauler I recognized from northwest Iowa. That was at least ten years ago. It’s probably gone by now.

?I been passing everything in sight, six days on the road and I?m gonna make it home tonight ?

Great song and picture that you posted....

They called the little engines putt putts they ran a blower that blew air over ice in the front of the trailer. Most all truck stops back then had Ice they opened up a door in the front and shoveled it in. They would run those putt putts untill there was nothing left and the pistons would rattle.

Mclean Trucking in Winston Salem,NC ran those back in the fifties knew a man that drove for them said you to take a butter knife and somehow jam the governor so they would run faster.
