If one wanted to have an antique tractor engine rebuilt around the Dallas area, where is the best bet? I can do the work, but would like to have a second option.

Doesn't have to be in Dallas, but somewhere in a 300 mile radius would be good.

Still in Bartlesville. Headed back tonite.

I had a flat tire getting out of the hollow. Had to use 2 cans of fixaflat to get to Lebanon. Got it fixed there and all ok so far.

Sorry the here about you getting a flat. I have one friend who boards a couple of her horse on my place that has a lot of flat tire problems and seems to get a flat every time she comes over but we almost never get flats. Maybe that engine put to much weight on the tires LOL.

By the way yesterday ended up being a busy day for me. You left and about 30 minutes latter the guy who owns the tractor I have in the shop stopped by with his mother and he wanted to show her my garden. Then the gal who boards her horse here stopped while I was showing his mother around to borrow a front tractor tire from me since there tractor had a flat and they wanted to get it back home

Bought a TO-30 in Dallas back in the early 90's. Guy who sold it owned an auto repair business and kept one stall specifically for restoring tractors. Sure wish I could remember his name!

He sure did a nice job on the old girl. Ran sweet as molasses! Ended up needing something a bit more maneuverable due to lots of small trees to be avoided.

Hope the rest of your trip goes well.

Wish I could help, I've lived in the DFW area all my life, and finding a reputable engine shop has always been a struggle.

I guess the area is too metropolitan. There are shops that will work on European and Japanese engines, but go in asking about a tractor engine... They'll tell you to get out and get back on the turnip truck! LOL

There are a lot of shops listed, but none I can personally recommend. Sadly a lot of them have a reputation of turning repairable parts into scrap metal, and still expect to get paid!

There used to actually be some tractor repair shops around, but high taxes and code restrictions run them out of business.

You will probably get more interest hitting the small shops in the outlying towns. Look for some shops with tractors or implements parked around, ask who they use. Since they don't have an unending supply of new customers, they have to at least try to take care of what they have!

Being you can do the work, probably your best bet would be to do as much as you can as far as disassembly, clean up, parts chasing, and reassembly. Just let a machine shop do the head, crank, whatever specialty work needing done.

if your needing motor work done, MABBCO motors in Tyler is about the best in east Texas. they stand behind their work and their work is top notched. their number is 903 597 2441 1915 w Erwin, Tyler
if there is work to a block that i cant do, it goes to MABBCO

best of all, Tyler aint but an hr and a half drive from Dallas... well worth the drive

Landmark New Holland, McKinney and other places, before it became such, used a machine shop guy in Whitewright (N. of Mc Kinney about 30 miles).
I used him on my Ford 3000 overhaul. Super nice work, can get the parts and do what you want. Don't know if he's still in business or not. Might www
Landmark and talk to their shop foreman and see if they still use him.

on't know if these 3 do tractors, but I expect likely since some do Model A Fords.

Wayne Calvert Precision Engines, Denton, TX (did a Ford & a Chevy racing engine for me, very good, powerful, & reliable)

Piranio's Antique Automotive, Denton, TX (my uncle & long time member/president of Dallas Model A club said that members had used him & thought good but expensive)

RK Designs-Antique Engine Rebuilding, Royse City, TX (no experience with)

docmirror What kind of motor are you talking about? I live near Tulsa and have a machine shop I use there. Lynn

Another idea I had a Fiat built tractor motor that needed rebuilding no one wanted to tackle it I knew,so I took out an ad on Craigslist explaining what I needed.A real nice young fellow that worked for a dealer, had worked on those motors and had his own shop on the side answered the ad things worked out and he did an excellent job on the motor and I have gotten him to do more work too. Those 226 AC motors are pretty easy to work on you shouldn't have any problem getting it fixed.Any small farmers in your area? If so ride by and ask them who they get to work on tractors.
