in the gas tank on the left side where the filler spout is located there is a small pipe maybe 1/8in.that comes from the bottom of the tank to the top inside of the filler neck I assume it's a vent line on the bottom of the tank there is a fitting with a hole in it I have tried to push a small pointed object thru it appears to be stopped up but I am not sure if it's supposed to be open so it can vent the tank I am having problems with getting gas to the carb I have blown out the lines checked fuel pump and talked ugly to it hopefully someone else has a 464 that can help.

With the cap off does it do the same thing?? If it does then it cannot be a vent problem. Since it has a fuel pump it could be a bad pump or if it has any inline filters the filter could be clogged up

I agree with Old. Check the cap vent. The 1/4" line may be far a diesel return fitting not used on yours. I have never seen a stand pipe vent that looks like that. Jim

That vent is plumbed so if the tank is overfilled it will drip out of the bottom instead of running down the side of the tank. If you have issues with the cap loosened then venting is not the fix. Mine has an inline filter under my right foot, I'm not sure if it was stock, but it's usually what's wrong. It has a fuel pump so it should have pressure at the carb.

Just asking, but is nt there a gas filter in the bottom of the pump? Maybe I am thinking about a different tractor.

When you checked the fuel pump, did you disconnect the line at the carb, start it up and watch the pump work?

It should give a solid pulse of fuel each time the pump strokes, build and hold pressure, and not be spitting air. If it passes all the tests, the pump is good and should be delivering fuel to the carb.

There may be a screen in the fitting at the pump.

Is the fuel line routed away from the exhaust as far as possible?

Another test would be to have a wrench ready and pull the carb drain plug immediately after it quits. If there is little or no fuel, there is a fuel problem. If the carb is full of clean gas, it could be an ignition problem.

Does it have the crossover pipe like a 454 from bottom of one side of tank to bottom of the other side? If it does and it's clogged you can't get gas from fill side if it's not full enough.
