I h ave a John Deere 2030 and my rubber grommets that fit over the gear shifter selectors are bad. I researched John Deere's website and found the part number I So i ordered them. Upon a rival the gear shifter on the right does fit the shifter stick but the gear shifter on the left does not. The left shifter has a spring loaded parking assist shaft and requires two grommets that are a different size than the right one. Has any one seen anything like this and can you help me find the part numbers for the groments. Any help will be greatly appriciated.

What your running into is the spring loaded left hand lever was a KIT that JD had installed on the Mannheim tractors to lock them into park and low gear. This was a safety "PIP" or Product Improvement Program. This program came out in the early to mid 1980s. Long after your tractor as built. The kit was called "PARK LOCK ASSURANCE KIT (LEFT-HAND LEVER)"

The top boot right under the gear shifter knob is R74451 $12.42
The bottom boot that goes around the larger diameter is R78249 $22.21
There is and Oring/packing that goes around the lower boot. This helps keep it held into place. L31311 $6.86

P.S. There will be guys chiming in to tell you that the spring loaded left hand lever and the lock plate on the dash are all junk an should be removed and thrown away. Without this locking setup it is darn easy to accidently kick the tractor out of park when getting on the tractors. When you stick your right foot through/over the transmission hump you can easily hook your shoe/toe/pants leg on the left park/shift lever and knock the tractor out of park. This happens while your not completely on the tractor. I know of two that rolled away when this happened. Neither fellow was hurt. I bet that some where some one was hurt/killed and JD was sued. Then these kits came out.

I owned a JD 2640 that had this kit put on it. It made the tractor much safer to me. It is about impossible to knock the tractor out of park once the interlock and spring loaded lever are engaged. After a short time putting it in park became second nature to push the spring loaded gear shifter into the lock.

Ooh yes the safety latch,,I installed many of those back when I worked for the Dealer in the 70's,,since then I have "removed" more of them than I put on..the were part of an insurance settlement,,I don't remember the particulars,,they do work the way they were intended,,but they are a nuisance to get your pants leg past, and it makes the shifter feel like a piece of Licorice..To find the correct boots you need to look closer at the parts book..
