So it came in this morning. I looked it over and the PTO linkage is manual and it will not engage. It will make a sort of clicking noise but not engage so the shaft does not spin under power. Looks like the fuel tank and seat and then some sheet metal has to come off before I can get the lift cover off and see what is going on. So any body ever get into one of these that had a PTO problem. It also has the 540 PTO and 2000 PTO which to me is odd. I wish I had a paper manual for it but he did at least have a manual on CD. It is a 1990s something Cub Cadet 7273.
Thanks

Old That thing is actually a Mitsubishi built and not a bad little machine. I sold several of them back in late 90s. You are probably looking ad the front bearing being down on the pto shaft. Not even certain you can see where you are going by removing the lift cover. I know you will figure it out so good luck.

I got it into the shop to check out what I might need to do to fix it. Pulled some of the sheet metal off and the seat. I removed the oil fill plug on it and fired it up and tried to engage the PTO and could see what looked to be a coupler that was either not engaging or broken. So from what I see I am looking at having to split it to repair /replace that coupler. Hard to see it as such but looks like it has broken off and now just ratchets sort of instead of holding tight to make the PTO work

For things like that you need a cell phone endoscope to see what is going on inside before tear down.

Just google "cell phone endoscope" and pick the one that will work on you phone.

My cell phone is a pay as I go stupid phone so not likely to help any. I can see where it has the problem by way of the oil fill hole and I can watch a couple or what ever it is slip

Well the first thing I have to do is get this stupid computer to let me view the CD that has the manual on it so I know what the heck the part is in the first place. Tried to load the disk in the computer just to find out if does not have the program it needs to view the disk
