helped the neighbors bale some hay sat, while unloading one of their boys comented I was pretty strong for my age,48,so afterwards I went home and got a few pics of myself at 20 to 22 years old.my arms were 21 inches around my bicept then,13 1/4 today.back then I could bench 400 pretty easy and for quite a few reps,be lucky to do 150 today, could dead lift 500 pretty easy, doubt I could do 250 today.im wondering if its just aging or if 3 rounds of cancer and 25 years of insulin dependant diabetes has taken its toll.

Old age and health issues get us all. Back in 74 when I went into boot camp I weighted around 135lbs but came out of boot camp at 175lbs. I could do 1500 jumping jack etc. at that time. Now I have trouble doing one jumping jack and have a weight limit of 35lbs if I do as my doctor say I should do. If I bale square bales I have my baler set up to only put out bales in the 35lbs range. Old age and health problem are not for the weak but those thing get us all it is just a matter of time

You have to wonder what the young people can handle when they get old. I'm 63 and I can outwork my 32 year old son. I still can't lift what I used to be able to, largely because I hurt my back a number of years ago and have avoided too heavy loads since.

Exercise is extremely important as we all know. The problem that many of us have however is that we are of the mistaken opinion that just because we are active and do a lot during the day that we don't need exercise. I have found that my upper body does pretty well except for one shoulder that did not recover properly from surgery, so I do exercises for it daily and it keeps the pain away. I found that I had trouble squatting very low so I do 10-12 deep squats every day. I have pretty bad arthritis in various places but it bothers the worst is in my lower back, so I have a set of exercises that I do twice a week for that. The most important one I think, is standing on one foot, each one, for 30 seconds daily. When you are over 65 every time that you see a medical person they ask you if you have fallen. this exercise makes the difference. So now go ahead and tell how active you are and why you don't need exercise.
