Tin sediment bowl

On the 77 Oliver I bought a few weeks ago the sediment bowl was made of tin. Is there any special reason for this? I haven?t seen one before so I was curious thanks.

Could be the tractor had a mounted corn picker on it in the past. I have a farmall M that has one on it, I have heard it was if tractor caught fire the glass one would break from heat, metal was more heat resistent?

It's cheaper than glass. I have a JD 4430 that the sediment bowl cracked. The replacement from JD is tin. I hate it. Can't see if the filter lined up when putting it back on. Get a glass one if you can find one.

Yeah the last one I got from Deere for a Bosch A pump was metal as well. I guess I was wrong thinking all these years they were glass so you can see if the filter is dirty or there is water or sediment present???

Thanks for the replies! It actually was bad and I just happened to have a glass one on the shelf that fit perfect
