In the post below someone stated there are no rocks in Florida. In two years here I have found that to be true. Why are there no rocks in Florida?

Isn't the underlayer bedrock of florida all limestone? Sinkholes. Also it is almost perfectly flat. When I was down there that was all i saw. Also the last night time shuttle launch. Was just so awesome.

There is some in the central Florida area from Daytona to Cedar Key to Tampa, etc. Limestone that looks like lava rock with larger cavities. When dug up during dredging operations and used for "yard art" or just left out in the weather it just collects black mold, lichens and serves as skeeter breeders.

I forget the exact term but what is known as bedrock in Florida is made up of sea shells. It's why underground water tends to erode away caverns and create sink holes.

I had an uncle that lived in Orlando and worked for a trucking company that hauled rocks into Florida from the North. He would come to Iowa in the spring when we were picking up rocks and say if we were closer could make a fortune selling and hauling our rocks. Never could figure out why but landscapers around here will pay big money for large unusual rocks for landscaping.

Glaciers came down from Canada breaking bedrock or solid limestone layers into smaller rock fragments. These rocks were pushed ahead or under the glacier and dropped off when the glacier melted back into Canada. The glaciers around here stopped at the Ohio River at the Kentucky state line. It could be Florida has never had any glaciers.

Google search "Geology of Florida" . Find lots of info sites and read all about it.
In a short answer to you, the source of the soils there, quartz sand eroded from the Appalachian mountains and beach sand from rise and fall of ocean levels over the ages.

Florida was a sea bed that was pushed up. There are four types of sand in Florida Marle a type of clay like limestone and sea shells, and of course limestone. The sink holes are because the fresh water is being pumped out for new homes and acidic rainwater replaces it dissolving the limstone. I grew up in southern Florida dove sink holes some like Warm Mineral springs that are ancient.
