8 foot pull type brushhog

I am thinking about purchasing a 8 ft brushhog it's a pull type just wondering how some if you that have one like it compared to as 7 ft.seems like both rear tires will be running in the uncut grass kno cbc knocking it down before it gets cut.just wondering how the finish cut looks thanks. RICK

Check the brand carefully/ Most Bush hogs pull type have solid rubber tires in rear. Might be an off brand rotary cutter

Every unit ever made from 5' up run on the uncut grass the same as your riding lawn mower unless it is a zero turn with the deck out in front. The 7' would also be running the tires in the uncut grass. The only way you would not have that is with a 4' and wheels set in cultivating 40" row position but then you would still be leaving strips uncut to do that. Even if you had that setup to get the next pass you would still be running a wheel in the uncut.

I do not know what your concern is about the cutter's tire running over the grass before it is cut. I have not yet found a way to get the tractor to pull my bush hog with out flattening the grass first. Most pull type brush cutters do a better job then the 3 point type because they are always running level to the ground.

I was up against that decision once. Neighbor had a 3 pt 7 footer, single shaft and it was just too much sticking out back. I chose a Mohawk 8' with twin blades and dual rear wheels, drag type. Worked well but wasn't what I could use for what I wanted as it was too wide for my varying terrain and I'd scalp in one instance and leave grass standing in another. So I went back to a 6' single shaft, 3 pt for my hogging efforts.

I'll clarify this a little better with a five ft up to a seven ft. I go around the field Clockwise only the right side tires run in uncut grass the left side runs right next to the uncut but in the already cut side. If I jump up to a eight foot I will have to move over to the right getting the left side tires in the uncut area to get the full eight ft. Cut.it is a brushhog brand cutter.just asking how anyone else likes a eight ft. Cutter. RICK

Rick -Some tire linkages can be turned over, moving the tires further in. Had a 7 or 8 ft pull type Bushog brand, where that was possible. Unbolt 4 bolts, turn tire to inside, and rebolt.

We pull a 14' wide and never noticed anything uncut or different where the tractor ran that I can remember.

I assume that since its an 8 footer it will be a dual spindle machine. I think you will be much happier with that vs a single spundle since they should be set up to counter rotate and will then pick up the grass you rundown with the tires. No i have never used an eight footer but the batwings are setup like this and cut great.
