JD A rear tires......

Cant seem to get answers on the JD Forum...maybe some of you here can help. Im wanting to add fenders to my JD "A" ; the wheels/tires right now are close to the seat...about 6" of shaft on the outside of wheel; im moving them out and installing fenders; how far out do I go? Maybe 2" of shaft on outside? Thanks.

I would move them out enough to get desired clearance between tires and fenders, and then adjust rear wheel width to match the job or implement I plan to use it with. My only concern would be that wheel hubs do not extend past end of the axle.

I had homemade spacers to move the fenders out for easier access to seat with more space between seat and fender. And I had wheel tread set on 66" that I could use OK with plow, cultivators set on 40" or 30" rows. And do you realize the clam shell type of fender is only for the square axle tractors as they require the hole in top flat surface of the axle. I understand there are brackets that were made to install thos fenders on a round axle tractor but have never saw a set of them. I had a 38A, 46B, 49B & 51A all with the over the top fenders and I would not want the clamb shel type as they do not provide the safty that I wanted the fenders for. I had those type of fenders on a 41 Farmall H.

Hi....would you have pics of these with the fenders on them? Or different style of fenders....I do have the round axle but they are flat on the front side....with 4 bolts. Thanks.

No pictures But the clam shell is not made for the tractor with the round axle. You would need the adapter that I have never seen. The flat top fenders for the newer 2 cylinder tractors with the lights in the fenders should work. 2 of the holes on front side of axle are for cultivaters and the other that should be 3 holes are for the fender. If you go to John Deeres parts lookup site you should be able to see pictures of the different fenders.
