where in north or south Carolina can buffered propionic acid be purchased, everyone I asked knows what it is but don't know who sells it.

When I was parts man at the New Holland dealer we used to be able to order it from them in 55 gallon barrels and 275 gallon totes.

Do you have a Cargill dealer near you? Their Storage Mate product I would say is buffered.

Hope you are wanting buffered propionic acid to help prevent rust.

I get it from the local New Holland dealer. They aren?t any lower on price than JD or MF/Agco, but usually have a spring program that has free shipping to the store - others around me don?t.

Good luck,
Bill

(quoted from post at 09:41:19 04/24/18) There are some of us that do not know what it is.

Proprionic acid is an organic acid that inhibits mold growth and is used to treat hay or grain that is higher in moisture than can be safely stored. Hay can be baled into the upper 20s percent moisture but the wetter it is the more acid is required and coverage must be thorough. Straight proprionic is corrosive to steel and is a great paint stripper. The buffered acid doesn't but still burns in your nostrils if you get even a slight whiff. After harvest though it dissipates and is harmless. It is rather pricey and usually used in special circumstances.

Does the buffered product come in concentrated form or is it always sold in a straight use form?

I have never seen the buffered product, but the concentrated form smells like really strong dirty socks which is probably caused by propionic acid.

As an interesting note at least to some:Ibuprofen, Naproxen, and Ketoproxin are all propionic acid derivatives.

Comes in ready to use form, liquid or dry. Google Promote Storage Mate for more info.
