In a dry sleeved diesel engine what are the first symptoms that the sleeve is dropping. This is with a non flanged sleeve or liner like in Dextas or early perkins engines.

The sleeve drops far enough to touch the rod bolts sa they come around. This makes pretty radical noise if the sleeve is thick. Then the top of the sleeve becomes lower
than the top ring. The ring snaps outward and snags the sleeve. Really noisy and terminal from that point. Jim
