OT - Anyone got their TAURUS recall replacement?

Daughter had a Taurus handgun that was recalled due to potential for misfiring. Going off even when safety engaged. Terms of recall was that they would replace with new model. Returned hers several months ago and have heard nothing. They were to ship to a federally licensed vendor who would dispense new item. FROM THEIR LIST, we chose Dick's Sporting Goods in My Pleasant, MI. They only had a few vendors in our state. This was the closest (30 minutes). Daughter was shopping there today, and stopped by gun counter to see if they knew anything... Was told they would never do that, that they would refuse the shipment, that they do not even sell that brand, that they would never sell a handgun... and was summarily dismissed. Dicks was on the list the manufacturer's list of vendors who would honor the warranty. This selection was some time before Dick's made headlines for stopping AR type firearms sales and promising to destroy all they have in stock.

Guess I got the problem of spending a lot of time on hold and arguing with Tarus "customer service" next few days.

Anyone got their TAURUS recall return? What was your experience?

Haven't had any problems with Taurus. The only Taurus firearm I own is a .38 Special DA revolver.

The only time I've had to have warranty work done on a handgun, I took it to a dealer and let the dealer send it in. It obviously came back to him, and he called me when he had it.

I should have asked, how did you send it in? Do you have a receipt for sending it?

FedEx, with their provided label. Prepaid shipping. Gotta dig through my desk;, but yes, have paperwork on it. FedEx confirmed delivery. My problem now is that they will be sending it to a dead end. If they haven't already.

Bought a Taurus in Dec last year and it is defective. Tried calling them numerous times and just got put on hold. Dealer tried calling with same results. Dealer tried emailing with no reply. I sent USPS letter with no reply. A week ago I filed a claim with Indiana Attorney General office. Since it is election year, I am hoping for positive results but we will see.
I am pretty sure I will not buy another Taurus. A lifetime warranty is not much good if the company will not acknowledge their customers problems.

Well "Dicks" is living up or down to their name!!!! LOL

As for Taurus fire arms. My middle son is a hand gun nut. He bought a couple of Taurus guns over the years. The majority are fine but that odd one or two is nothing but a head ache. He will not buy that brand anymore. They are not worth very much on the used market.

(quoted from post at 21:34:41 04/22/18) WHAT KIND OF PISTOL????

I don't know all the details of this settlement but was under the impression that it was a "voluntary" recall stemming from a class action settlement. I also think the term to get this taken care of has expired ( unless it was extended again) Anyway the gun models recognized with issues are listed below, produced between 1997-2013

PT-111 Millennium
PT-132 Millennium
PT-138 Millennium
PT-140 Millennium
PT-145 Millennium
PT-745 Millennium
PT-609
PT-640
PT-24/7

I agree. Don't need anything bad enough to get it at Dick's. They are true to their name.

Why did you go to Dicks in the first place ? I have been to a number of Dicks stores over the years and none of them sell handguns and it's been that way for years.

I bought a 9MM PT111 a while back. It was faulty right out of the box. The trigger safety would hang up and it was almost impossible to eject the magazine. Spent 3/4 of an hour on hold before someone answered at Taurus. When I told her what the problem was, she said it just had to be broken in. I told her that was not the problem and that it was unsafe to shoot. She sent me a call tag from FedEx. A few days later I received a letter from them saying they received the gun and that it would take ABOUT 3 months to fix and return. I waited. In their letter, it showed how you could check on the status of your gun. It kept showing that it was received but nothing else. I looked up complaints on Taurus handguns on Google. There are thousands of complaints for any reason you can think of but, many of them were for the waiting period. Some had been waiting for 6 months. Some that they had been lied to and the list just kept going on. I found the sight for the better business bereau in the city Taurus is in and filed a complaint. Taurus answered the complaint and said that they do repairs in the order that they are received. I answered the complaint saying that this is a brand new gun and because it was screwed up at the factory, it should be repaired ASAP. The next day I received the complaint back again and Taurus said that they would put it on their priority list. Three days later, FedEx delivered it. This is my third Taurus but, after reading all the complaints about poor workmanship, waiting time for repairs and that fact that this gun was supposedly tested and was released for sale, I think my next gun will probably be a different brand.

I'd love to pass along some of my expert advice, however the closest I ever came to owning a gun was a Red Ryder BB gun (rifle style) and a Roy Rogers cap gun back in the 50's. Both of those were indestructible and they didn't even have a warranty. They don't make 'em like that anymore !!!

BrazTech Rossi/Taurus apparently have some big problems. I've been looking for a Rossi lever action rifle for many months now. NONE are available. Anywhere!

I have heard that the factory is under going some remodeling and is shut down, but that info is at least one year old, and still nothing.

First off I'm not sure if that's even legal. My understanding is that only FFLs can ship firearms, period. If a regular person puts a gun in a box and tries to send it somewhere, even an FFL, it's a felony. Am I wrong?

Second off, did you just toss the gun in the box and ship it to Dick's sporting goods, not confirming with them ahead of time, opening a customer service case, getting an RMA number, filling out some paperwork?

I don't care what you think of Dick's, you can't expect them to be mind-readers when some random gun shows up on the Fedex truck one day with no explanation.

If you have the RMA/case number then someone with customer service can look it up and give you the status.

With no RMA or case number for Dick's to refer to, the gun is for all intents and purposes, lost.

For a valuable item like this I would settle for nothing less than handing it personally to whomever I was entrusting with taking care of the issue, with the clear understanding that that is why I am handing them this valuable item, and paperwork indicating that I have transferred possession of this valuable item to their care for whatever service is being performed. I would not blind mail a gun to a national retailer.

I should add, ESPECIALLY when it is registered in my name and I am legally liable for any harm that gun does when it is out of my possession.

If your state has handgun registration, you better get to that authority now and report the gun as lost.

A non-FLL individual can send a fire arm in for repair and receive the repaired fire arm. The repair facility must have a FLL. UPS will handle the shipping. I have done this with a Kimber 1911.

ou can send it via FED EX a lot cheaper, they do not require the next day air like UPS does. UPS claims next day is an ATF requirement, but I called ATF, and it is not. I believe some states and cities do not allow an individual to receive the repaired gun, but most do.

I had the repair done around three years ago and I don't recall if an authorization to return was necessary. I know I called Kimber to discuss the problem and got the correct address and shipping details from them.

Wrong, wrong, wrong. Urban legend.

The general rule is that the RECIEVER of a shipped firearm who must hold a FFL and therefore be the agent who ensures the final receiver of the gun can legally possess that gun.

An individual who is the legal owner of a firearm may ship a gun directly to the manufacturer (who obviously is licensed by the BTAF as a manufacturer) for repair.

In this era of where every layer of government wants to regulate everything including issuing cat and bicycle licenses, your LOCAL laws may differ, but in general, that is the rule.
