My 96 Dodge 3500 should have 215 85 16 front and 215 85 16 duels on the rear. This is what the door sticker says. I have 235 85 16's on the front, and 215 85 16's on the rear. It's been like this since I purchased it. Is there any reason I can't put 235 85 16's on the duels also? About all the truck does is pull my mowing tractor. Any thoughts? Stan

If its 2 wheel drive it will not matter only affect speedometer and power so small effect. If 4 wheel drive which I assume it is not that would be bad.

2 wheel drive it will not matter much but if 4 wheel drive the tires NEED to match front and back or you over work the transfer case etc.

I agree. If the bulges of the tires are
less than an inch apart with the 215's than
the 235's would get really close together.
You would have 3/4 inch less clearance
between them as you do now.

My 99 3500 is the same way. I stay with the 215's front and rear. Tire guy said the backs would touch and rub with something larger.

If you have already been running with different tire sizes on the front and rear axles, I'd guess it's a two wheel drive truck.

Do you want the wider tires to carry a heavier than normal load or are the wider tires less expensive in a lower load range? Compare your maximum rated axle weight to the rated dualed load capacity of the tires, your axle and spring capacity is probably lighter than the capacity of either size of tires.

Some of the early duelies needed the smaller tires because they rubbed in the middle, the late model trucks clear with no trouble at all. I have mounted a lot of 235-85-16 as duels.

I have a '98.5 3500 4x2 that has 4 alumnium wheels on it, both fronts and the outside rears. That I am fixing up. The sticker calls for 215s and I have been planning on trying 235s. I will buy spacers if they are too close together. At least one of the outside rears is a 265 on it now. It is a 24v-NV4500.
