OT San Jacinto Day

Fellow Texans, today is San Jacinto Day which ended the Texas Revolution. I understand some will say Americans came here and stole Texas from the Mexicans. Others say the Mexicans misled settlers and imposed stiff rules on them. Bottom line, Texas became a nation then joined the U.S. and here we are today. Me, I'm glad. Way to go General Sam!

I'm remember reading somewhere that the song the yellow rose of texas was about a mixed race girl who the keeped the Mexican General entertained and distracted him at the start of the battle

I just put a case of Lone Star in the ice box yesterday, so that is a good reason to get started on it and celebrate. It's 5 o'clock somewhere.

Lone Star beer, an ice box, not a refrigerator, the Texas flag flying. don't get no better than that. I have to get over to HEB and get some Lone Star and a 6 p0k of Shiner Premium. not a fan of Bock now.

Remember the Alamo! Remember Goliad!

Yep, and the Mexicans stole Texas from the French.

The French stole Texas from the Spanish.

The Spanish stole Texas from the Native Americans.

And the Native Americans . . .

Well, some folks think they migrated from Asia.

Others say GOD brought them from down from Heaven on one of his GOD's country vacations.

Well OZ, there are Americans, North Americans, Central Americans, South Americans, Mexican-Americans, African-Americans, etc. I am a Scots/Irish/English/Scandinavian/West
European-American. Yep, pretty much all modern nationalities took the land from a prior people. A lot of us here got here the same way and from the same place as y'all
down in OZ. I'm not sure which of my relatives were criminals or were fleeing religious persecution or famine. One came with the Red Coat Army but apparently changed
sides during or after the American Revolution. History/geography is fascinating.

Amen! If y'all are ever around Houston, venture a little ways to the east and go to the San Jacinto Monument. Over close to the Battleship Texas under the oak trees are small monuments with quotes from General Sam's diary. It is clear from reading them he was looking to and depending on God to make up the difference in the upcoming battle. God Bless Texas!

Nice story but history says it was never true. Born and raised in Texas but never knew there was a San Jacinto day. Been to the battlefield never understood why Santa Anna. Chose that spot to make camp.

If y'all down there in Taxas could read, you'd know I'm in Kansas, the original Oz.
Where Dorothy was from.
Hope it's not over y'alls head.

I have some friends from Australia. They refer to Australia as OZ. No offense intended.

Farmer, the song does refer to a mixed race girl, but never heard it was the girl Santa Anna was with.

The original song was written in the 1850's by a slave looking for a lost lover. It has been cleaned up, as it would not be PC today.

It has been recorded by many artists over the years.

But legend has it Santa Anna was literally caught with his pants off, enjoying the services of a "lady". The rest of the men were also caught unaware of the advancing army, taking a day off, thinking they were no longer in harms way because of their recent victories.

Alcohol may have been involved!

wjytexas, how about some Ernest Tubb or Hank Thompson music to go with all that? Or maybe something a little closer to home for you, what about Adolph Hoffner and the Pearl Wranglers? I know Adolph and Batch were from Moulton, or in that area. I spent many a night in and around Santone at their dances.

Not Batch, but Bash. I don't know where I came up with Batch, but he was nicknamed Bash because he was real bashful. He was a steel player.
