Start at the bottom and work up. The package started at Maple Grove MN. It was sent by UPS. It arrived at UPS Tampa Fl and was transferred to the local Post Office for delivery. This is a screen shot from my computer.

And the problem is???????

That is the trouble with modern freight tracking system.
It lets the general public see things they do not understand but has been going on for years.

I just got a package from amazon.
Started in Houston went to Mobile Ala and then back to New Orleans.
What do I care if it passes within 1 mile of my house 2 times before they delivered it.
It still got here in 2 days just like they said it would.

The shipper sent it UPS General instead of UPS Ground. Look at the shipping code. If it starts with PT,it has to be transferred to the Post Office. They can't deliver it to you themselves. We had it out with the driver one time, then he explained it to us.

I agree -- nothing new here.

We have gotten lots of packages that start with either UPS or FedEx, then USPS finishes the delivery. It all comes down to the shipper. Sometimes they can get a cheaper shipping rate by sending packages to a central location, such as local post office, then have USPS finish the delivery. Even happens with 2nd Day packages, which really blows my mind that they can be that efficient so often.

Not exactly sure about the PT thing that Randy mentioned, but there have been a couple of times that I know of that UPS finished delivering a package that was shipped for USPS to finish. Why? Because they had other packages that same day coming here. ...Maybe they reached the post office "after" the carrier left for the day. Don't know. In any case, nothing to worry about.....unless something goes wrong. *lol*

Last mile. The post office is going by your house every day no matter what. For me there is a problem in that I use a P.O. box and deliveries getting transferred don't get delivered unless I put the Post office physical address, and my P.O. box in the address.

Back when I pedaled packages for UPS in 1978 if a package only had a PO box number it was returned to the shipper. That number only means something to the post office. If by chance it made it into my truck for delivery I could lot of times find the street/avenue address in the plat book or phone book. One time the $%&#@ local post office charged me a Buck to give me the address.

If you look at the shipping information on smaller packages you will often see Fedex SmartPost or UPS SurePost. There is an advantage in that you can get packages delivered on Saturday. If a package is within the weight and size limit it is more expedient for them to finish the shipment using the post office. It does not always mean you will get the package earlier.

I have sometimes seen tracking results that said delivery not made "customer not available" when I was there out front all day.

The UPS driver told us that if he has a package with the PT prefix,he CAN'T leave it here. He said if he was right here in my yard with three packages and one had that code,he couldn't leave it here. He said it happens all the time. With that code they HAVE to go to the post office. UPS drivers hate it. They're unionized and they say it takes drivers off the road by dumping sometimes half their load at the post office instead of having a driver on the road delivering them,.

Big kerfluffel about USPS delivering stuff for Amazon at a cheap rate. But its a money-maker for the USPS, because their variable cost of delivering a package in addition to their regular mail is almost zero. The mail has to be sorted and the mailman has to drive right by your house whether he has anything for you or not- might as well get a little bit for an extra package than nothing at all.

As far as the union UPS guys being upset about having to dump half their load at the post office, I'd say when you're ready and willing to deliver regular mail every day for 49 cents a letter, THEN you can complain.

What I have to do is put the post office address, then my p.o.box number. Fed-up takes it to the uselesspostal service and they stick it in a hold box.
I'm not a fan of the post office. Years back the post master told me my handwriting was the reason they went nuts. If I could live with out them, I would. Have not mailed a bill in twenty years.

I didn't know UPS had linked up with USPS. I know FedX and the USPS work together on deliveries. I think parcel delivery to your house rather than getting a notice in your mail box and having to go to the Post Office to pick it up is superb!

USPS, UPS, and FedEx all carry and in some cases deliver each others packages. I was in FedEx a few months ago and they were talking about working with "Brown" (UPS).
