auction marking crayon- removal

how do you get the marking crayon that they use at auctions, off wood? especially antique implements where repainting is not an option?

Soft cotton cloth and your clothes iron. Set on cotton and iron over the crayon. Will get most of it out. If not go back and punch them in the head.

When they have my sale, it?s going to be as confusing as heck, because everything I have still has auction numbers on it. Some have more than one from the prior fellow, too! Ha ha

Try naptha or Coleman Fuel. Try it on a small spot with a cotton swab. Naptha is used by musical instrument and art restorers because it doesn't lift the paint or laquer underneath.
I feel your pain. I can still see number 61 on the grill of my Massey Super 95. I hope it fades out before I do. unc
