Finishing projects vs buying more projects

A funny thing is happening this year. I only bought one new implement this spring, and no tractors. So with my extra money I've gotten quite a few of my previous projects done (well, field ready). Sorta feels good and now there are less parts sitting around. IDK if any of you have tried this strategy before or not, but it does seem to be working!

if you don't keep buying fixer-uppers, what will you do with your time when you have every one you have completed?

I really need to stay off Craigslist and away from the auctions. I was just telling Oliver Jim Monday that I had intended to finish up the Oliver Super 55 when I got the 500 gas done, but then I found the diesel orchard. There's a 70 sitting in the back corner of the toolshed that I've had for 20 years now and haven't made any progress on in the last 15 years.

I tend to be the opposite.

When I have so much to do that I can't see the end of it I go full steam ahead and am quite productive.

When there are only a few things on my to do list I am awful at putting them off, like the mind says there is lots of time to do it later or tomorrow or next week...

Doing that right now. Bought this at the auction two weekends ago and
started on it the next day. Welllllllllll. two weeks latter with on
and off tinkering and finding parts the machine is a hoot to drive.
Mows luke a thing possessed. Still needs some more work. And that
includes about 5 hours of work and close to $80. worth of parts.
Everything is a maintenance part. New blade, drive disk, carb, starter
rope, etc. Sound familiar? Just on a far smaller scale.

Oh I've still got a backlog. Not "finished" with all of them! Actually just got back for Spring Carlisle and got lucky and found the exhaust manifold I needed for my '54 Ford in really good shape for only $10. Engine and transmission rebuild coming up.

The projects around here seem to accumulate faster than they get done, but hey, it gives me options on what I want to work on.

I swore I wasn't going to start another one until I finished some but I tore into my dozer tonight. I have about 4 tore apart now and still look for more but I'm trying not to buy any unless it's something I really want.
