That's how he described it on local FB for sale site. But then he says "runs great on both gas and diesel".. Is that accurate?

why not? what were you thinking? its a fair statement. they can not run on gas with problems, or not run on deisel with problems. have seen both . take it your not familiar with these engines.

Looked at one a long time ago. The gas carberator looks as if it is off of a CUB. Just enough to let it warm up.

Those early IH diesels had spark plugs in one side of the head: diesel injectors on the other. As others said. Start on gas and run until fuel pump pressure and combustion heat generated then close off gas flow as engaging diesel. Sort of a built in pony motor.

international was the first tractor company to come out with diesel engines in 1934 , was beat by caterpillar by couple years. to get the tractor to run on diesel it had to be run on gas for at least one minute to get the engine warm enough to fire on diesel when it was switched over to diesel. once warmed up it switched over very smoothly. it was a very good system they had. later on by 1958 they used glow plugs to warm the combustion chamber to get the diesel to fire. on start up you could hear the diesel knock, but not so with the gas start engines. they switched over very smoothly and the inexperinced ear would hardly know the difference.

i would be looking at the serial # as there is nothing guaranteeing u thats a super model. it could be a 52 0r 53 with the tub frame.in 53 they changes to the channel frame. the only thing super on it is the front emblem... but that guarantees nothing. need to see serial number and that will tell the story. it will be only 4 numbers.
once a tractor is painted lots is hidden or changed.
