PTO reversal

Some of the very first KUBOTAS had revers pto and we used a box from hub city bearing. That has been 30 years ago. What tractor are you running with a backward PTO?

You mite drop us just a subtle hint as to what you are working with. As a reply says Hub City Gear (and likely others) make some gearboxes to do interesting things with PTO's.

But they ain't CHEAP. unless you are trying to do this with a tractor with some serious value, the gearbox will cost more than your old tractor is worth.

Just say'in!

I've got a litter spreader where the spinners were made to turn the opposite way most spinners turn. It doesnt do a very good job.
I was thinking to put a gear box in there to reverse the direction.

I'm guessing here that you have some sort of fertilizer or seed spreader, not a manure spreader.

Frankly it would cost more to do the gearbox than to find a new spreader. I've picked up small PTO fertilizer/seed spreaders at auctions for as little as $10.

Or can you just unrivet the paddles from the spinners, and turn them around?

Perhaps swapping the spinners from one side to the other?

Mount up one of the Jeep rear pto reverser gearboxes.
From the flatfender era of Jeep.
standard 540 pto output shaft.
Input has a flanged hub on another splined shaft.

They can be found for a lot less than a reverser marketed towards tractors.

I-H sold such devises that were used on Cub and Cub cadet tractors, both reversed the shaft but one of them was 1-1 ration and the other one had a reduction too. They are around here and there for sale. The one that fits a Cub is usually cheaper than the Cub cadet unit.

I used to build carwash machines. I found a gearbox on a junked tire brush to reverse the pump on my dump trailer behind my 9N Ford.

Wouldn't the reverse pto be mighty handy for when a post hole digger auger gets stuck? I've had to "Unwind" mine several times...with a big pipe wrench and a loooong cheater pipe...lol

It would be, but it would also be more expensive if it was a shiftable box.
Most are full time reverse.

I do not recall ever seeing an add-on pto gear box that is shiftable from clockwise to counterclockwise.
