1066 or 1466 for pulling

Looking into buying a 1066 or 1466 for pulling, would run in 10,500 mod farm class. Rpm limit is 3100. Dt466 swap so engine doesn?t matter. How much stronger is a 14? Do they have stronger tranny?s and rear ends? Any specific parts that are bigger that really make a strength difference? Also considering the amount of 1066?s sold, is it easy to find aftermarket parts to beef them up and make them as strong as a 14? Just wondering what the best tractor to go with is. Thanks.

Don't know or care. Nice you have the $$ to pixx away. Just for S&G, what does it cost to have 4 supercharged V-8's on a 'puller' ?

I have build a bunch of the dt466 puller engines. Make sure you start with the big lifter block and get the right oil pump. I think I would stay with the 2066 rear , never have seen a lot of problems with the rear end.

Nice aditude. It’s not pissing away money if you have the means. That being said if you have to ask you can’t afford it they say.

What a reply. If you are going to add nothing to the topic, stuff like you just posted is better left untyped. I am not a fan of tractor pulling but each person to themselves. Tom

You would almost have to look in the parts book to find where the two tractors differ in the power train. A 14 has larger axles and wider bull gears. I cannot remember if bull pinions are wider but I don't think they are.

Keep in mind that there are different rpm's of engine from early to late model in both tractors. That would only affect pto though for what you are intending to do.

I am not into pulling at all but try to never tell someone else how to enjoy his hobbies. Some guys do.

The bearing on the pinion shaft next to the pinion gear is wider in the 14 than the 10. found that out when we did a TA delet in our 1466. One is about a half inch wide the other is about three quarters of an inch wide. It mattered because of where the snap ring groove was in the shaft.
I think with either of them you will be over the 10,000 weight class, or so close you will not have room to work with weight adjustment for the locations you would be pulling at.
I have never pulled just picked up things from watching and listening.
You might talk to the guy that does deliveries for Autmans auctions or something like that in WI. He was telling me about doing some gear changing /making to put a fourth gear in a 1566 for pulling.

Bob, we don't need that kind of comment on this site. If you have nothing constructive to add, why not just keep quiet. Tractor pulling is a great family sport for a lot of folks. I don't pull any of mine, but I could if I wanted too. There are sponsors for pullers just like the race cars and other sports. Once again if you feel the need to spout off the nasty stuff, do it somewhere else instead of these forums.

I have to kinda agree with Bob, waste of money.....but so is restoring an old tractor. Pay 1K for a 1K tractor, dump 7, 8 maybe 9K into restoring it to have a tractor worth 1K? Or boating. Another waste of money. I know, I'm currently looking at new boats, combo fish and ski. Heck everything I'm looking at is in the 30-40K price range. Heck other than shelter, food and clothing most things are a waste of money. But if it's their money????? They can waste it anyway they want to.

Anybody that has a little bit of money is going to pizz it away. Some people spend it at a bar, others have a nice fishing boat. Then there's always women, I can't afford women....

From my reading in these forums over the years I get the sense that there is a higher rate of driveline problems with the 1466/86 tractors than the 1066/86. Enough that, probably from a position of ignorance, I would choose a 1066 for the project.

What limited pulling I've been able to watch, it just seems that I see more 1066's and very few 1466's, so again from a likely position of ignorance, that would affirm my choice of a 1066.

...and for the record, it is pi$$ing money away no matter what you think... Anything that isn't food/clothing/shelter is pi$$ing money away. However if you've got the money to pi$$ away, then by all means, HAVE FUN! Don't let anyone tell you how to pi$$ your money away.

He must have put his shorts on backwards this morning as he has posted negative comments on at least two places already today. I hope that whatever it is that has made him feel adversarial gets relief soon. You never know until you have walked a mile in their moccasins.

Agreed Other people pizz it away and buy a big SUV so they can pay more for gas, more for tires, more for insurance just so they can say they have a "truck".

He's probably one of those nnalert BOTs still getting paid to go after anyone that posts something about her.

Well when they make a car big enough to fit my 6'5" 280 pound frame that will also pull my boat to the lake and back then I'll get rid of my truck........just remember when looking at those safety ratings of yer 35 MPG rollerskate.......it "IN THIS SIZE CLASS".
