hi there, recently my tachometer has stopped working, it will jump for about 1 second when i crank the engine but flatlines when ideling or running, any thoughts, the tractor is SAME explorer 90

cable broke or stripped out in drive or back of tach. Take cable off back of tack and see if you can spin it with a drill.

most of the time the tach cable strips out on the engine drive unhook the cable and start the engine and watch the drive it should turn smooth. the drive gears give out but it is rare. next spin the cable with your fingers the needle on the tach should move. lastly you can unhook the tach cable to the tachometer and take a small screw driver and turn the fitting for the cable drive on the tach the needle should move.
