Went to a consignment sale at Woodstock VA Saturday must have been at least 20 hay rakes about 10 NH 256,56 and 55 rakes plus 6 or 7 JD and New Idea and others, most went cheap I thought
between $350 and $1200 the high ones were in nice condition.Bought another NH 851 baler in very good, lightly used condition can tell its never baled many bales for $350.Those chain balers have gone in the tank price wise a nice NH 848 bought $375 suits me I love them makes 9 851 balers I own now.

We stayed there once on the way to NC. In the motel/hotel right across the street from the fair grounds. I took a little drive east through town, and went down and found the river! Water was high, but it looked like with low water, there was a ford where you could drive across.

Was the auction at the fairgrounds?

If there was a good 848 close to me that brought that kind of money it would be in my barn. Could use a smaller baler.

Cutting back on my cow numbers, could sell excess hay, but people won't pay for the amount of hay in the bale my 855 throws. You can do the math and show them how much more hay is in a 5-1/2 x 5-1/2 bale vs a 4x5, but they still don't get it.

wow you wouldn't get any round baler (even a parts one for $350.00) up here! T.F. that's very close to grand theft baler  9 851 round balers?? T.F. your not a hoarder are you?

I have less than $3000 in all 9 but I think this one has been used less than any of the rest. Now I'll have 4 that work good,4 parts balers and 1 that can be run if needed probably be a parts one.Hard to resist at that price.

T.F. I just did a quick search of nh 851 balers for sale, the cheapest I could find was $1000.00 (rough) and the highest was $3500.00 mid to late 70's vintage looked in nice shape newer tires. I think you better get that one you stole on sat. hid back in the trees before the sherriff spots it on one of his patrols

I had an 851 once then I bought an 855 baled 40 acres and the chain came apart I traded 2 nice first calf heifers that pos and I think got 75$ for it at the scrap yard lesson learned no more chain balers for me . If I was to buy one it would be an 851 though

Should have called me I have a 855 with a new chain on it I bought for parts a couple years ago for $100,apparently the pickup was run into something and bent up.

im glad it?s gone honestly . Nothing worse than hay to put up and spending a day untangling a apron chain that turned into a pretzel. The chain in the 851 is small and light enough you can take it out put it back in buy yourself pretty easy without even taking the apron tubes off . That chain in the 855 is a heavy miserable sob there is also a serial number break on the chains the only thing better about an 855 Is it wraps the bales a lot tighter and puts more twine on than the 851 but that?s not a problem if your not trucking the hay to far .
