Grain prices/late spring

Ok, the big corn and bean producing areas of the country are or will be significantly behind due to lousy weather over the past month or so. Is that an accurate statement? There does not seem to be any upward pressure being baked in to corn and bean prices. Is this true, or is the pending export tariff ruckus covering it up?

Traders don't get to concerned about late planting until May 10th. However, "record yield" possibilities are soon out the door.

Ag news show said this past weekend the entire u.s. corn crop could be planted in 10 days working time with today's planters. If planting starts near end of April that puts finish about May 10-15. Be later than a normal year, probably affecting yield. Soybeans are different animal. Some say 40 % beans are exported. They have high probability of being affected by new tariff rules if they go into effect, China may decide they don't need high tariff beans. They can get no tariff beans from S America cheaper. A lot at stake here on beans.

Yup, it's a non issue until May 10th. We don't lose any yield until then to speak of.

If we are still cold and wet up here (pretty good chances...) then hold on to your hats.....

Technically a wet cold spring like this would favor higher corn prices, lower bean prices, as we can shift some acres as the season gets shorter.

Farmers are going to pay the price.

You can't win a tariff war when there are other sources of supply. The Chinese will just buy from Brazil, Canada, Argentina, Australia, etc, etc, etc. We're hardly the only game in town when it comes to grain production.

There is no good news in either the short or long range forecasts for higher prices to help the American farmer.

I have heard that 10 day statement for some time now. When I was wrapping up high school and into college, the spring planting for corn was a bit wider than that, and people didn't get overly shook up about getting into the field and planting. Today, so many people start to lose their minds if they aren't started by the 15th to 20th of April, and heaven forbid if it gets into May! Once the spring application equipment gets rolling, AND if the weather cooperates, in our area the corn planting timeframe equates to about 8 days.

Yeah. We taught all of these foreign countries how to farm, and how they're pulling the rug out from under us.

There is only a sm all reserve worldwide.
If china buys from brazil someone else will
have to buy from us. There just is no t
enough extra to make shopping elsewhere a
serious issue. And with weather as it is
that % of reserve is falling fast.
