Farmall Cub

What a good price for a Cub with a cultivator? And what do you guys think of them? There is one on Craigslist right now. Thinking it might be good for the garden. The guys is asking $2500 for this one. Older restore. I know the Cub seems to be a love or hate model but it would probably only be used for cultivating. I'm just looking for a faster way of weeding a garden that is about 125x175 (and growing every year......)

Many cultivate with a rear-tine tiller (with rows appropriately spaced, of course)- but 125 X 175 is a lot of walking. I would think you could make a sulky seat to drag behind a tiller. The advantage of a walk-behind tiller is that you can cultivate even after the plants get too tall for a tractor. Price seems strong for a Cub, but I don't know how rare the cultivators are. If its in good shape and will do what you need, go for it!

That price is in the ball park for one in good condition in my area.

I have a rear tine but I'm starting to think its not the answer for just cultivating. I'm starting to think that it is over tilling the soil and increasing compaction. Especialy after a heavy rain. While I can adjust it to not till so deep it seems like a lot of wasted power to run a tiller just 1 inch deep. Also my expierence has shown a spring tooth fluffs the soil and burys weeds much better then my tiller.

A little pricey but in VG condition would be alright. What year? What kind of tires? That all makeas a difference. Excellent for what you want to do with it, reat forr plowing and fitting small gardens, We have one.

Price is in the ball park for a cub in decent shape here in NE Pa. I have one and use it a lot for pulling a quite heavy roller for my lawn. I also use it with a mid mount sickle mower to trim around creek bank and along fences. I called myself a real optimists buying a snow plow for it. But with chains on it I have only had to use a bigger tractor in 8 years. Real handy little tractor, as I have a driveway that's 300 feet long.

Does that one have the cultivator gangs behind the wheels. I never used mine but after I put them on and set them deeper it took care of the tracks and some of the compaction. I listed mine last fall for 2500 and I have a bunch of attachments for it and it has new tires on the back. I use to use it a lot but the last few years it just sit in the pole barn

Took me about five minutes to find one here for a thousand, has cultivators and pretty good tires. I do not know where you are but for this part of the country that one is priced high. Check Clarksville Tn CL , farm and garden

Well, the Cub was built to do small-scale cultivating, mowing, and similar chores, with simple controls and minimal required maintenance. The fact that thousands of them are still doing just that on a daily basis 70+ years after the first ones were made should be a good indication they were well designed and built. I would say there's some wiggle room in the asking price, but it's not terribly out of line if it's in decent mechanical shape with good tires, and parts and service items are still easy to come by. You'll find they're a handy little tractor, and you'll almost certainly find other uses for it beyond cultvating.
