JD 5085E opinions?

We're considering trading an open station NewHolland for an open station one of these because of front end issues. We don't have room for a cab in 3 pens which is why rops is the only option for those barns. Anyone have any knowledge of reliability and sturdiness of these models? Thank you

Not sure about the e but we have a 5095m and it's been trouble free...so far. What size NH you replacing? We have a TN75a and it's a good tractor except for the electrical system.

We have a 4030 NH,can't keep wheel bearings in the front end the rims keep cracking and the loader snapped the frame bolts off one side last summer,it's too light for what we need.

What makes the M better than the E? The shipping weight of the E is 200# heavier than the M?

We have a 5100E and its been a very reliable for us. Kind of surprised on what they will pull too. Couple years ago I pulled a disc with it to make a fire break around our field and this disc was the same one great grandpa pulled with his 830 and 4020. Ours is a 12 speed with the reverser. They are kind of a no frills simple tractor.

As long as it's reliable will do the work and has a power reverser to save my hip that's all I really need

Thank you,I'll ask the salesman but according to tractor data.com they're both made in Georgia and use the same engine?

The 75E's are 2000 pounds lighter than the 85 and the 75 is made in India, the Deere site says the 85 E&M are both made in the same plant

I called the salesman today and he said the 85E and up are made in Agusta Georgia in the same plant with the same components and bearings as the M. He said the E is more of a no-frills version with more manual controls where possible to cut costs and as few electrical and trim options as possible. I talked to a guy yesterday that works on a farm that has one and he said that in the first 2 1/2 years warranty replaced the flywheel and they paid to replace the universal joints and bearings up front. I mentioned that to the dealer and he asked me if I've seen the tractor at home? They have a drive in manure put that they put the soupy manure in with that tractor daily driving it belly deep in the soup. I guess he had a point there. If we get it with 5yr warranty at least the next 60mo our open utility tractor expenses will be fixed instead of wondering all the time what's next.

Phillip d, the difference on a 75 and 85 is the engine. The 75 uses a 3 cylinder and the 85 has a 4 cylinder. You will want to stay away from the 5075 and smaller models with the 3 cylinder. I've had a 5045E and 5075E at my farm using them last year for a demo. Light jobs they were alright. The least little bit of a load and the 3 cylinders will drink fuel bad. A buddy of mine is a salesman at our local dealer that I got the demo tractors from. He said they had seen a fair amount of the E series with the left hand reversers come back once they got a few hours on them. The guts in the controller for the reverser are failing pretty quick. The E series are the cheapest of the models made now I believe. If you could go up to the M series I think you would get a little nicer tractor. I think the M you can get a platform tractor instead of straddling the transmission. That might get into problems with your height you are trying to stay under though.

That makes sense too thank you ,we need the height clearance but poorly made electrical components don't help either
