Hill Country Tractor Ride

I know some of y'all are ### deep in snow but it was a 50/30 day to start the ride yesterday. 50 degrees and 30 mph which was a swing from Friday's low 90's. We rode through the Texas Hill Country north of Fredericksburg from the community of Doss to one of the county's historic rural schools for lunch. No bluebonnets (lupines) but lots of green. In some of the pictures we appear very spread out but if you have ever driven an old tractor thru very hilly terrain you want to have some space. I took my '54 NAA and out of about 50 tractors there was another '54 and 2 '53 Golden Jubilees. Throw in 2 8 N's and a 3000 and 4000 and there were almost as many Fords as JD's. There was a group of 5 tractors from New Mexico. They show up every year.

You all should come up to the bridge crossing at Mackinaw City. Looks goo though. I was just telling the wife I should have done that back when I had the truck on the road. Could have loaded the H on the top then Put a regular load on.

Depends on what is being raised there. Sheep and goats are common down there. My dad was raised about 75 miles south of there. They had a large goat heard. Some put it up to try and stop pigs.Where I live in Texas. They use it to try and stop the pigs. Doesn't always work.

wjytexas,

Looks like a total blast! Great mix of stuff to see.

Yep, still white stuff falling from the sky in SE MN... though we are fortunate that we got far less snow than areas north and west of us in MN (and other states).

Might be interested in making your drive next year? Is it always in the ?Hill Country?? Second weekend of April? How many miles? Contact Info? Thanks for posting and info.

I actually not in that club but have made 4 of their rides. Check out rustyiron.org. Hill Country antique Tractor and Engine Club in Fredericksburg.

Some of us more southernly guys were talking about that a while back. What it has always sounded like to me you had to be a club to get a spot.

It is a yearly event.....about 20 miles....stop for lunch about half way. It is always in the area around Fredericksburg, Gillespie county. Usually this is peak wildflower season, but this yr. has been so dry, not many to see. I can forward any other information you might need....I live here and belong to the club.

Nathan, that's a game proof fence.....many of the ranches raise exotics and is to keep them from getting out. Some of the animals are expensive......I see elk, axis, fallow, on my place and they all escaped from the exotic ranches.

This ride is escorted with law enforcement deputies.....try to nit pick something else we might have done wrong!
