I cut some potatoes that sprouted and am going to let the sprouts grow on a tray. Then carefully plant them when it gets a little warmer. Its supposed to get early potatoes that way.
imggot some blue potatoes, some yukon gold and some red pontiac. Not alot,,just some for the raised bed.]

That was the way my gramps did it for "new" potatoes, We were careful with the sprouts to assure they were not broken. Jim

When I was a kid, my parents said to always break the sprouts off before planting. Did not make sense to me, but of course that is the way we did it.

we always broke the long sprouts off too. Just easier to plant I figure, if there was something else but don't recall anymore.

We always broke the long sprouts too. I decided to be a 65 year old rebel and plant the whole thing. So far all the sprouts that were sticking out froze and died. I'll keep you posted on what happened to the sprouts that were covered.

That'll work just fine. Make sure, though, that if you leave any tips sticking out you don't get them frozen. Cover with some straw or similar
if a frosty night is coming! Jim
