Who is lucky enough to still have one or more of dad's or grandpas tractors ? I have grandpas 4020 and 420 crawler tractors. I learned to drive tractor on the 4020 and I remember one of my first jobs was baling straw with a new holand square baler one fall after school then I learned to spray grain for wild oats and thistles which has always been a favorite job of mine . then I did fall plowing with the 4020 and an ih 550 semi mounted plow I kind of took over the 4020 and grandpa ran the 4320 . in the spring we would put duals on the 4020 and pull a 25 foot melroe multi weeder with spring tine harrow sections.

I have Grandad's 1942 Silver King, A Model 41 3-wheel, He bought it new. The last one to come to this area before WWII. When the truck got here, my Dad laid his hand on the hood, he found that the paint wasn't dry!
I also have my Dad's 1947 Model 42, 3 wheel. He bought it used, from a mountain farm, it had been upset/rolled.

Got my Grandpa's 64 Ford 4000 gas, and my Dad's 69 Ford 4000 diesel. Spent a lot of time on both when I was a kid.

I put power steering on both 'cause I've gotten sorry. The diesel used to have a one arm loader on it, that was fun with no PS, but it still beat a pitchfork.

I'll put the haybine on behind the diesel if I've got help mowing, and it does some raking. The gas really doesn't get much work anymore, but it's not eating anything either

I haves my Grandpas Case DC4. For years it was his loader tractor, then he pulled a set of Kosch mowers with it. It is still the best starting tractor on the place, even if its in retirement.

I have my Dads M that he bought from t he son of the original owner, and an F-14 that belonged to both of my great grandfathers on my Dads side.

After our neighbor farmers moved my dad traded lumber for a JD MT to use around home, it is still on the place and I use it to mow the field. My brother has one of dad's JD 40C, it had a loader on it that he used to load logs, my brother took the loader off and put a blade on, uses it to skid logs, plow snow, and whatever else needs doing.

Just finishing up re assmbling dad's farmall BN. Turned it over last week and it caughed, ran on its own for 1/2 to 1&1/2 minuts. Nice to hear after being apart since 1991 and after verious set backs, carb and valve difficulties. Now this week hope to keep it running for from several minuts to several hours to re run it in with its new rings. Then start down the power train, pto first, then go through the tran and gears and re set the brakes. Still up on blocks at rear end. Then find a match pair of 11.2 x24 used. My aim is to finally drive it down the road before the end of June this year. Live near london Ont.
But each ofyou MR. MERFY AND HIS LAW. Ouch!

I have the 1925 JD spoker D my grandpa bought new and never left the family and my other grandpa's JD 3020 he bought new from from dad when he was a JD dealer as well as his IH TD6 crawler he used for farming.

I have my Dad's Oliver 66 & 77 that I used when I was growing up. I have them both tore down and I am sorry to say I may never get them back in running condition let alone restored as was my plan in the beginning.

I have grandpa's garden tractor he bought new. An Osco model 65. Also have plow, disc and cultivator designed for it.

I have my Dads Massey 135, also have my FIL?s MF35, working slowly on her Grandfather & Great-grandfathers Allis WC, you have to save family history

I have grandpas case cc. It was sold at auction when he passed away, a neighbor bought it. To my knowledge it sat at the neighbors house for years until my father's feiend did some work for the guy and he got it. It sat up at his house for many years under a ripped tarp, carburetor and manifold rotted off. Somehow block never cracked. Then back in 2008 ish, he gave it to me. Unfortunately he passed away before he got to see it run in my possession, but I am pleased to have it back in the family and was so excited to get it going again!

My brother has the tractors ,they are still on the farm in NJ

2 Massey fergusons

A JD LA ,And two JD As ,one JD B,And a Ford 3000 diesel

I have my Dads 1949 B JD this tractor was sold new in the late fall of 49 by The Auto Andersen Co at Wheeling Ill it got traded back in that winter as the man that got it new went to a new A and 4 row planter &cult. We were Farming in SE Wi at that time Dad traded a LI in on it. in 53 we moved to NE ill only 10 miles south.in 58 we moved to Madison SD 600 miles Dad trucked most all the mach out before we the family moved in march. dad retired in 78 and gave my the tractor. i used it on Feeder wagon for about 20 years it all restored now. I always said this was my tractor as i started doing field work on it when i was 9 years old. not many can give History like that. I am 77 years old now and that tractor will go to my oldest grandson why the time comes

Fortunately I still have my Dad's 2N after he passed in the 1970's. However I lost my job later and thought I was going to relocate so I sold it and implements to a friend. Twenty years later I didn't move and wanted it back. Friend said OK but he got dementia and died. Had to buy it back at auction for same price.
Now my grandsons want it bad. How lucky can you get.

There should be lots of tires that size kicking around your area, the majority of IH offset tractors in Canada were used in SW Ontario.

I have Grsndpa's Allis Chalmers C and my kids and grand kids have driven it so five generations of my family have driven it.

Grandfather, Carlton Johnson, bought the F-14 in 1938, with a two row cultivator. My uncle was old enough at the time to have the muscle to lift the cultivator. My Dad being one of the younger kids, in the family of 9 kids, couldn't lift the cultivator when he was operating it, so Grandpa put the hydraulic lift on the F-14. The F-14 wasn't the first tractor I ever drove, that was a B John Deere as I could handle the hand clutch. The F-14 has such a long throw on the clutch peddle, I just couldn't do it at age 5 years old. A couple of years later I could do it as I had grown a little taller and if I slid off the seat to the left, I could push the clutch in far enough and shift the transmission with my right hand under my right leg while hanging on to the steering wheel with the left hand. I think I was about 10 years old before I could hand crank it to start it. I would put the crank in the upper position and then jump up and put all my weight on it in order to get it to turn. I could only do a half a revolution that way, but that's all it took. Then it was either reverse or road gear, with a top speed of 8 mph, but to a kid my age, that was flying!

This tractor my Dad sold new, then traded in, and we also used it on the farm for several years. I ran it for many years when younger, track her down after it was sold and bought it back, it has 18,000 hours on it. Tired but still has guts!

I have my dads 1950 Ford 8N. He bought it new in 1950 and has been in family ever since. I recently restored/refurbished it and plan to pass it on to one of my sons.

Dad's 1956 400 LP with Stan Hoist loader, I use it to move snow and also used it to build our house. I bought it on Dad's retirement auction in 2002.
a261835.jpg

We still have the WC my Great grandpa used to replace the dead horse in 46 or 47' my Great uncle picked it up from the dealership and took it across the road to have the spokes cut off and rims welded on for rubber. Still have the WD that came new a couple years later. Both were on the same dirt since new up until 2009 when grandpa died and we moved everything to Iowa.

I have my father-in-law's '48 Farmall Super A. He fitted it with the cast-iron front axle, shutters, heavy-duty air cleaner, PTO and pulley, light kit and the Monroe after-market seat. Wiring for the lights needs to be replaced but everything else works just fine.

Grandpa bought both the Farmall M and Oliver 88 brand new that are still here today. Neither left the farm in terms of trade or sale. The biggest journey either had was from the factory to the dealership then from the dealership to our farm. Both are in pretty decent shape but need a little TLC at the moment. Dad bought the 4010 diesel brand new that as still here as well. What always captured my interest was the ones never bought but were considered which was pretty rare. I found some literature out in the garage a long time ago for an Oliver Super 88 with some figures scrawled on it which had to be price. Nothing showing trade so the M and 88 were safe. Then there was an invoice from an area JD dealer dated 1970 that had a very large figure written on the back of it. Kind of guessing a 4620 was being priced.

Fiver that my father in law used. He loved his COOPs. 2 E3s, 1950 he bought new and a '48 from a neighbor who passed away about five years ago. A '51 E4 he got around 1970, a '51 JD A and '72 Ford 2000 that came from a horse farm that owed him for hay. I still use most of them and try to work on the rest.

It wasn't new to the farm and I don't know when it was bought, it's a 1953 MM UB diesel. I got it now. My cousin would have taken it to scrap years ago if it was up to him, he hated that tractor so much. In fact I think he'd scrap every Moline in the country if he had the chance. Thankfully I got a hold of it for he did. Someday I'll get it refurbished. DP

I never even knew about Dad's Dad's F-20 still existing at my Uncle's farm until my cousin had tried to pull it home to restore one winter and pulled it into two pieces. Had no interest in it. Other Grandpa, Mom's Dad, had a WC Allis, styled but hand brakes, had the l-o-n-g gear shift lever that you had NO idea what gear you were in until you let out the clutch. Not really interested in that either. And even Grandpa wasn't interested in the two non-running unstyled JD A's even the Deere dealer a half mile away didn't want.

Dad did save my Stage II Super H for me. And I got the '51 M Dad bought new that I drove when I was about 4 years old and solo'd with it pulling the hay rope putting up hay when I was 5.

I took a picture of "The Fleet" May of '68. '57 Farmall 450 with M&W direct axle duals and Koehn tractor cab, then '51 M with clamp-on duals, then '54 Super H, then #70 Cub Cadet. Had just got done planting corn, everything still had duals on. But cultivator was set outside the machine shed ready to put on the 450. Had mowed the yard already with the 70. Had washed and waxed EVERYTHING. Spent two days doing it too.
The #70 Cub Cadet, M and Super H are all in my shop. Not really looking for the 450, but if I could find the Super M-TA Dad had from '60 to spring of '65 and traded on the 450 I'd buy that in a New York Minute!

My father bought a new Ford 8N in 1951 from a dealer in Hamilton NY. Only tractor he ever owned. I got it when he passed, and only used it for hauling firewood. Packed up and moved to Wi about 1992 and took it and a Farmall Super A with us. My youngest son is still out there and has the Ford 8N and several Cockshutts he bought out there. I hauled the Farmall back to NY and put a woods mower on it. Then my daughter wound up with that one on their farm when I moved to .65 acre in the village. I have 4 Power King tractors, and 3 Case Garden tractors.

Dad was a chemist who specialized in electroplating, which is how we ended up over this way instead of in Grand Rapids with the rest of the family. He was was world renowned in his field and companies in Europe still hold patents with his name listed as inventor. His dad owned a store in GR that sold tea and spices. If either one of them ever sat a tractor, I don't know of it. That would be my thing, so you will have to ask again in a few decades and see what my kids did with the place. :)

Me too, only I was a little older.Dad also got a cultivater, disk, and PHD.Raked a lot of hay, pulled a lot of wagons and a lot of hayrope with that old girl

I have my Grandfathers 53 Super H he bought new in our local town, and I live on the farm he built up from bare land. I also have my Dads first tractor he bought in 63, a 53 Super M that was purchased at an auction. He also farmed here up until 2004 when I bought the place.

We have Dad's Jubilee he bought new in 53. Our farm was small but it supplemented his oil field income. Learned how to drive on it. In later years he got an International 650....what a change! Then even later he got a Super M. Have both of those too but the 650 is in scrap shape now.

I have my Grandpa's Oliver 88. It is a 1949 model. It was a demonstrator when he purchased it in 1950. Purchased new from Daily Implement in Mattoon, IL. Been in the family ever since. A special tractor it is.
Here is a picture of him on it in the fall of 1950.

My granddad farmed with mules. He was old school. The first tractor on the place was when my uncle's bought a 1946 DC3 case tractor. Everyone wanted to know why they bought such big tractor. I have the DC3 now along with my uncle's 4020 standard, JD 1520, JD 40 and Cat D8 2U. The Cat was purchased in spring of 1973 used.

My dad bought a JD 830 new and I have that tractor also.

I'm also in the process of setting up my uncle's 00 Frick sawmill. It's not a old tractor but it is a family treasure just ask my wife. Lol

There"s a simple fix for that WC shift lever...the little toggle by the knob is a stop, so it doesn"t go far right and allow for reverse. Follow the rod down into the shift tower and you"ll find a broken pin. If it"s working far left gives first and second, far right gives third and fourth. Pull the toggle, go farther right for reverse.

I have my grandpa's 1939 Allis Chalmers B, my daughter and son in law have my Dad's Montgomery Ward Twin Row. I also have Dad's Belarus 825, not so sure about that one....

Dad bought both new, a 45 and 52 H. I learned to drive on the 45. Kids have no interest in them, so maybe the nursing home will get them one of these days. I also have the 50 M my brother bought used. I will guarantee you I have more bucks in them than they ever paid for them. Way more.
a261856.jpg

I have my grandfather's Case SC that he bought new in '52. My wife has her great grandfather's Farmall B that he bought new in '41. Most things I have would be sold for the right money. Not these two.

I have my Dad's DC. He passed in 1994.
one pic is me plowing, a few years ago.
other is the 'family', G-Pa in front, his sons
in the line. Geez, 5 tractors with 11 bottoms!

I have a farmall H that daddy bought after the war. It is a 1945 model and they drove it home 15 miles on dirt roads from Eatonton. My grandsons have drove it around some, I plan to keep it in the family long as I am around. Tommy

My father and grandfather were and still are mechanics (that Probably explains why I am a mechanic also)not farmers and they did not have any tractors bigger than lawn tactors. My wife's family are the farmers. We have her grandfathers 1945 farmall A, and we will be bringing home her dads Oliver 1800 soon to restore. He just passed away a month ago. There is still a H and M from the original family farm, that her uncle has. I have always had a love of tractors and farming. My other grandfather had a Ford 4000 or 4400 industrial with FLE for his construction business. I would like to find out where that tractor ended up and see if its still around. Someday hopefully.

I have a '35 Allis Chalmers WC that was my grandfather's, and a UB Minneapolis Moline that was my Dad's. Neither one has been restored, but I did repaint them both.

My cousin has an F-12 and a WD that belonged to the same Grandfather.

My brother has a 560 that was our Dad's and a WD-45 that belonged to our other grandfather.

None of the above mentioned tractors were bought new, but they were all around when we were growing up.

Both...my gramps bought a new 49 Farmall C in 50 needs a little work, but still gets used. and my pas 504 that needs an engine or that would be used yet to.

Dad passed away last year. All of the farm is still as it set so my two sisters and I have all of the tractors. 11 tractors and a dozer of various colors. A big move home is planned for this June along with a big change in life.

What I believe is Dad's first tractor is a 1939 F-20. His family didn't have much when he grew up, beyond horses I think they had an Allis C and maybe a B John Deere. There is a pic of Dad and Uncle Donald on the C cultivating. But those tractors went to the oldest son when he took over Grandmother's farm.

Anyways, when Dad started on his own he bought the F-20. I'm not real sure why the Dodge flathead 6 motor is in it but memory tells me he bought the tractor cheap since the motor was bad and had the car engine handy so the swap was made. The car motor has been in it since I can remember. That tractor has always had a distinct sound of the motor and the rear end gear noise. I have no idea how many hours it has on it, mostly pulling the rake and hay wagons. It's time for a new motor but Dad prepared for that. There is a Plymouth car sitting with the same motor at the farm. Just need to swap them out and she'll be ready to rake again.

I have my grand fathers 1935 JD-B plus the original owners manual to boot. He got it sometime in 1940 and then my dad got it from him for $75 and when my dad passed away my mom said al the farm stuff was mine. I have not had it running in a couple years but last time I did start it I pull started it and it fire up in les then 10 feet. Never even got it out of the machine shed before it fired up. I do spin to over from time to time but being hand start I do not use it as much as I would like to

SVcummins, I have 2 of my dads tractors that he bought new. A 1973 1555 Oliver and the 1989 White American 60. I had sold the 1555 in 1994 but bought it from the 4th person to own it in 2011 and it was rough! The White made it to its first tractor show and drive this past September. They have made it to neighboring farms for small jobs but need some work done now.

@Rich'sToys , enjoyed all your pictures, your "WD" appears to be hooked to a "A6" Case combine, just curious, were they harvesting some grain in the yard?

That must be your Dad on the Minneapolis, appears to have his Sunday best clothes on! Looks like argyle socks! Love the picture!

I do have Grandpa's 1941 Case SC (center exhaust).. He got it from a salvage yard in ND in the 1970's. He passed in 1993, and everyone in the family told me it was a lost cause, that it was "just plain wore out". I refused to accept that at 12 years old (we pulled it from the woods in 1998). Took me almost 10 years to finish it, but with a lot of help on this forum - I managed to get it to this state... Never got the chance to get grandpa's 1940 Farmall M... So I built one exactly like it (only a 1947 model). He rescued his, engine stuck from the woods.. I rescued mine - engine stuck at the salvage yard. First two photos are the Case SC (the first one is grandpa in '88).. Second two are Grandpa's M (with me on it) in 1990, and then the '47 M I built just like it. Also have 4 other tractors in my collection - '38 F20, '42 H, '42 JD A Unstyled Conversion, and a '44 MM ZTU. Love them all, but Grandpa's is always the most true to me.

Matt,

Would love to see photos of the straight 6 in the F20... I would love to do a conversion someday on an F20 carcass. Don't want to use one
with a good motor, but would love to make one look 'factory' equipped...

I was serving in the navy when both the family farms were sold in the 80s When my Grandfathers died. I couldn't have bought the tractors I wanted didn't have anywhere to put them. I wish I could have gotten the Super H or the 3514 international.

Our DC3s look identical except for the wheel weights. My uncle never put the wheel weights on and when I got the tractor had to search every briar patch on the place to find them. My DC3 is the first tractor I rode and later drove.

I?ve got three of the tractors - two were brand new on the place and have never left. Still farm with them. I?m more proud that I was able to get a hold of grandpa?s grain truck he bought in 1940 (a 1935 Chevy). I was going through pictures and found an aerial photo of the home place from the late 40?s and the grainary door is about three feet open and you can see the front fender and headlight of the old girl in the photo. She looked a bit better then!
a261932.jpg

That?s a neat old truck . I got one of grandpas old grain trucks about a 50 something Chevy it has a hoist on it I?d like to get it running but i need to find out what engine it has because it needs a new Valve cover

I've got my grandpa's M he bought in the mid-fifties. He had an M and an H. My uncle could only afford to buy his pickup and the M at his sale. That uncle sold it to me a few years before he died.

And I've got an F-14 which both my grandpas owned. My mom's dad sold it to my dad's dad before my mom and dad were old enough to date.

I treasure both of them and use the M. It has SM stickers on it from the dealer rebuild in the late fifties where they would paint a tractor with an overhaul. Sine they put SM pistons in it they asked him if he wanted the SM decals. When I paint it it will have to get SM decals again.

My grandfather bought this Farmall H new in 1942. It has been in the family ever since. Picture is getting ready to drive it over the Mackinac Bridge. I also have Dad's 1948 Allis B that he bought new. He traded a 1939 Allis B and $675 for it. They'll be here until I'm gone.
a261947.jpg

SV I have the last JD B dad bought and the first 720D JD dad bought when we moved back to this farm and I also have his D7 3T cat cable dozer and an unstyled B JD he got in 1944 all still run and used some every year

I believe that was a Case combine. I have no idea as to the story behind the picture--it was given to me by my uncle. It doesn't really look like harvest time as there is snow on the barn roof and the tractor has chains on it.
I have other pics of that tractor--one with a mounted corn picker on it and another with a homemade snow blower on it that Grandpa built.

And yes, that is my Dad on the Moline. I assume that was taken shortly after he bought it.

I still have the 1941 Farmall B purchased new in Hillsboro, Wi from Hora Implement. Price was $650. A new H would have been $800 and an M $1000. Tractor has been overhauled twice in its life.

I have my dads 4020 and I have his dads 1937 John Deere A and my Mom's Dads 70 John deere Diesel and gas tractors. I also have many other friends' grandparents tractors also. I try to keep the history with every tractor I get, it creates some very good conversations and memories. Here is a pic of the 70 diesel.
a261952.jpg

I don't technically own the 2 antique tractors still on the farm. My mom does after dad's passing 6yrs ago. The '36 Allis WC was bought used by grandpa in around '37 or so and was driven to the farm where its been since in '39.

In 2015 I re-staged this old picture I had found that was taken around 1941.

gzWXRSI.jpg

3 kids on the left are my Dad on the right and 2 aunts. 3 kids on the right are 3 grandchildren of the middle girl on the left. Managed to get the tractor parked in the correct spot next to that same outbuilding.

Last year I was able to get the negative for the left picture so I can make an improved version of this picture if I want.
