1991 Case IH 5130

Friend has a 5130 all of a sudden the 3pnt. quit working, oil is full linkage seems to be working will not work. Any Ideas? Also he put a loader on it he says when you turn the steering while lifting the loader will speed up. Anybody run in to this before. I do not know the ser. number. Also if you just want to be a smart azz keep it to your self. Seems most times somebody has to run there mouth about questions or spelling or what ever they pizzed off about today. That is why I hardly ever post here. Thanks,

Is the loader on a joystick or off the remotes? If it's on a joystick,I'd guess that it's a pressure sensing issue. As for the 3point, if everything else works ok, loader etc then I'd suspected an electrical issue, either the solenoids for the 3point (on the back of the pump, right side of transmission behind battery box) or possibly the electric switch on the console for up down etc.

On the older IH tractors, such as the 756, 856, etc., the cure for a non-functioning 3 point was to OVERFILL the reservoir. I don't know if the 5130 would benefit or not, but it might be worth a try.

I wonder if that's the same as my cx-100. Toggle switch, dial for depth control, load sensing knob, knob for limit up. Make sure all them controls are set to where it can operate.

I have a 5230. While I've had no major issues with it, the electrical/hydraulic/shift has been a nightmare. I only bought this tractor because I know a young fellow who was with CaseIH, and has all the factory service, and update info. on these tractors. The first thing he did was change the power shift module, which fried because of a bad ground. He knew just exactly which little pin connecter, out of a whole bunch, to go after and replace. Turns out they have little brown ground wires all over this tractor, for dedicated grounds for different functions. The problem is, if the main battery ground becomes compromised, the whole system tries to ground through some of these little wires, and fries them.

There are three, I think, "diode packs" which look like 5 or 6 wire connector ends, but don't go anywhere. They plug into various harnesses, on the right side, under the cab. I have replaced two of them. They affect three point operation.

I have replaced about every solenoid, except for the power shift ones. Forward/reverse/MFWD/PTO/diff lock/etc.

None of this was done with the shotgun approach. Each was checked out with the service info and replaced as necessary.

My guy recently installed a dedicated power supply, up under the dash, for the power shift. It didn't help. What it's doing is now with a heavy load on the three point, the power shift quits working!! He's found some obscure service info on some kind of electrical fix, which blocks the draft sensing(which is electrical) from affecting the power shift! That will be installed before spring work begins.

Bob is your CIH 5230 a cab model??? The reason I am asking is I just bought an open station CIH 5230. I will be blunt in that I did not really look at the three point controls that much. I hope it is not all electric. IF it is then it may not stay around here that long. I had heard of electrical issues on them but they where all cab models.

Yes it is. I like it, when it's working! It's my one tractor I've added auto steer to for spraying, no till drill, and fert. spreading.

It's got everything on it. The one thing I can't get to work at all, and probably never will, are the rear fender mounted controls for hitching up to the three point hitch.

I don't know what the answer is. Neighbor has a JD 7420 with very similar issues.

I had a 5140 , which was just the same basic tractor ,next size up . My loader had a dedicated loader control. And You could notice the loader speed change a little if you were turning, but not a big deal .Now the power shift control could be a pain. It would sometimes just take the day off, then work fine for two weeks. Great tractors ,but the electric stuff got to showing it's age.
