Found these two old postcards in with an envelope of pictures. Nothing on the back so I sent these scans to a friend who is into old trains. He says the first is engine 6039 at the Durand diamond, class U-1-C mountain and still exists at Steamtown PA. The second is engine 6046 a U-1-B at the Durand Depot. It was scrapped in March 1960. He says no U-1-B exist anymore.

Both from the era of Super Steam. The very tip top of steam engine development. I truly wish that I could have stood track side and watched these monsters go by. Diesels as powerful and refined as they are....there is nothing like 400 tons of breathing, snorting, and thundering hipower iron coming at you doing 100mph. Had the chance to see it. The first was 1971 when they had a Reading T-1 going from Philadelphia to Harrisburg, PA. Middle of the winter, plenty of snow, dead flat open fields and here she comes. The air is pulsing, the ground is starting to rumble and every fiber in you body is screaming for you to run away. I was born too late.
