Hey Bryce can you tell me what year this truck is

I don't know if he can tell you the year,but he can sure tell you why you should leave it right where it sits. lol

I had a Duramax in that year/style was great only problem I ever had was the mass air sensor went bad. Otherwise normal stuff like brakes and wear items.

Judging by the hood, it HAS to be 03 +, however those mirrors were replaced by the much more popular square style mirrors in about 05-06

So, it could be an LB7, which was 01-04 (Hood / dash changed in 03)
Could be an LLY, which was 04-05, this is the same lower end as an LB7, however has updated ValveCovers, and MUCH easier to change injectors.
06 was the start of the LBZ. One of the meanest, most desirable Duramax's

My guess would be LLY motor, but it is just a guess. Get the whole vin and I can tell you a lot more!

The 8th digit of the Vin will be 1, 2, or D.

1 = LB7
2 = LLY
D = LBZ, but some of the early LBZ's were actually "De-Tuned" and sold as LLY's (which is what my new crashed 06 is) It will still have the D code.

Bryce you need to take a trip to Florida. The land of 700 hp diesel pickups. I have a friend that has Dodge that is putting out over 800 hp at the rear wheels. Anouther with Duramax that is putting out close to 700 But the king around here is a 7.3 Ford that is putting out over 1000 with water injection. But it's a grenade with the pin pulled!!!!!

Oh ya I believe it! There is a 39 ford in town with a 1000 horse 12V Cummins, NASTY truck!

The LBZ Duramax's are stock 365 ish horse, but with a few small modifications, and an EFI Live Tuning, you can get about 550Horse/1000 FtLbs out of them, and STILL have a daily driver, reliable truck. Not tear things up, etc.

Blows my mind what these newer trucks are capable of! But you sure pay for the power!!

Thanks for the info . I may stop and look at it closer next week . Hopefully it?s one that?s easier to change injectors

I would really guess it to be an LLY, and they are an excellent motor! 325 horse I believe. Depending on the year it might have a VariableVane Garret turbo, which gave them a lot more throttle response over the standard IHI's in the LB7's.

What were the symptoms when the mass air sensor went bad? I think I good one going out?

Yes I?ve heard the injector horror stories on these things I know guys that have never had a problem and I know guys that have paid a five or 6 thousand dollar bill fixing em

Right on! Looks like a really nice truck!? Would love to have those wheels, and the flat bed on my dually! :)

2005 is an LLY, very good motor. My dad did a head gasket job on an LLY the other day. Guy bought it brand new from the dealer, one own, completely stock, he has had 2 sets of injectors put in it, and then the head gasket job. Had 376,000 on it when it was brought in for the head gaskets! Still awesome oil pressure, great compression, ran like it did when was new. Unreal to me that if they are taken care of, they will last a LONG time.

It's a good looking rig Thats for sure . I had a 94 cummins dodge that had 360.000 miles on it the day I totaled and that thing like you wouldn't believe with my tools and compressor it weighed just over 9000 pounds it was a 4wd drive dually it would get 17.xx mpg ruining empty all day everyday . I also have a 98 24 valve with 260.000 miles that I made into the service truck after I killed the 94 it runs great weighs 9500 pounds with all my tools and full tank of fuel it gets 15 mpg ap9arently it didn't like being downgraded to the service truck because the 53 block cracked so im trying to decide if I want to put a diffent block in it or not

I won't promise that the LLY will get that good of mileage, but should be close.

I get about 15 empty on my 01 LB7, crewcab / dually empty, but with a loaded trailer I get about 12. However if I take my foot out of it, I can get 13ish.

LLY Should do a little better. I'll ask my boss tomorrow, he has an 04 that pulls an enclosed work trailer every day of the week. Seem to remember him saying he got 13-14 with it, but it is only about a 5000 lb trailer.

I have owned 2 duramaxs and ran several as company vehicles.
Personally a 2003 2500hd reg. cab LT w/3.73 rears averaged 14 everyday use short trips usually with some sort of load Ocassional highway trips never got much over 16. Pulling a loaded 30' enclosed race car trailer with car, tools fuel, most likely overloaded would only get 9-10. 3hr. trip toward Rochester,NY. every sunday for the race season 3yrs.
2003 met an early demise when someone pulled out in front of me.That stunk, that truck did everything I needed it to do and worked well. Replaced it with 2007 classic identical in every repect except now a LBZ.16mpg everyday use, 19 sometimes 20 empty highway. 12 with trailer to rochester and always had the next size tire on them. 265 instead of stock 245.
Wierd thing about this truck it didn't matter how much or what it was hauling it got the same mileage just hook a trailer to it and it went to 12. Still have 2007 won't part with it and have been offered ungodly amounts by the LBZ lovers.
My previousy employer had 5 2008 up to 2015 3500hd gm dualies all ran well failures were only age,abuse and mileage related,
Young guys didn't like to run them didn't sound cool and weren't standards like the dodges and fords. Funny thing was the cooler they sounded, that's when the clutches, trannies, turbos or the dealer issues arose they would get back in the gm's to get their jobs done. Not to pick on the other brands but when the dodge and fords got quieter and smoother that didn't get hammered quite as bad. All of them would only average 10 mpg and mostly had mid 4 and up gearing and almost always overloaded.
Never had to replace an injector will probably have to some day.
a couple monthes after I bought the 2007 gm sent a letter out stateing that they doubled the engine warranty due to previous injection issues. 5yrs,100000mi. to 10 yr 200000mi. I'm out by a year now but It runs and starts like the day I bought it if not better. It is also bone stock never touched or chipped. Best truck I ever owned.
Yes I'm partial it's worked for me just as many friends have Dodges and Fords work for them.
That's a nice looking hauler and if some of original gm issues have been dealt with and been maintained might be a good one.
Good Luck
