IH R110 Truck

My great grandmother is not doing well and it's time to start selling some assets. There is an old IH R110 truck sitting under roof on the farm. It is a really neat truck that I would like to have. I honestly don't know the history on the truck but I think it would be neat to have.

If it were decent enough to be restorable (not showroom), what would it be like trying to restore this truck? For example, I have a 1965 Mustang and that is the easiest of cars to restore. Everything is available at the fingertips. It would seem to me that parts, pieces, etc might be pretty hard to find for this truck and it could get very expensive very quick.

Any opinions/thoughts?

Depends on what it needs. It's true that there are not as many reproduction parts out there as there are for Fords & Chevs, but there are some. A GOOD parts house can also find some stuff for you.

Another place to check is here:

My son has 3 of them The engine in his is a SD 220 and his has high compression pistons that are
rare and we could not find any. We had the engine sleeved and used the old pistons. Napa Has brake
parts. And there are places that have some body parts.

I forget if the letter stands for a pickup or a van, the 110 is for a half ton and the BD engine replaces the SD engine perfectly. Mine was a 50 model 130 that was orignal a 1 ton pickup but was converted to flat bed before got it. The SD engine turned out to be bad and it was replaced with a BD engine both 220" engines. So it should be hydrolic brakes.

Look through a Red Power magazine, some times there are ads in it for IH truck parts. A few years ago I bought a 49 Kb pickup. I needed a fuel
pump for it. Napa could not get me one but Orielleys did. There is a place called the Scout Connection that sells IH truck parts.

(quoted from post at 10:11:27 03/17/18) I forget if the letter stands for a pickup or a van, the 110 is for a half ton ......
The letter is which series it is and the approximate age.
L series--'49 to early '50's.
R series--early to mid '50's
S series--'56-'57.

I'm guessing the truck in question looks something like this:

Here it is. If it can even be had, maybe I will try to bring it home and if I don't ever get to fixin it at least I will have something from the farm.

Actually, the old Binder looks pretty good. If you get it out of the corn crib and wash the dirt off I
bet it looks much better.

There's websites Binder Planet and Binder Bulletin for mostly truck info. Several mostly truck parts
sources. I would say a 1950 IH pickup would be about as easy to restore as a 1960 to '66 GMC. Those old
Big Block V-6 truck engines are getting hard to find parts for.

That's a cool truck! It's a little older than the two pics I posted, as yours still has the two rear windows instead of just one.
That looks like it should clean up pretty well. Hope you get it.
Keep us posted.

The parts are pretty tough to find. Internal rust and failed frame structures are really an issue on those. Near zero body parts are to be found. Engines trans and axles are OK. There are very few in shows. I know of one being made into a Hot rod, and one very original. Just finding a column shift collar for the steering column was a radical challenge. Jim

Dr Evil I am an IH man that is the reason for me reading this post, Have several but I also have acquired ABOUT a 1964 GMC two ton, perfect cab and good running big V6. If you see anyone restoring a GMC ( I think the cab will even fit a pickup) this thing would be cheap and will separate cab or engine, I never plan on doing anything to it.

Jan That is strange, I probably know of 6 or 7 large IH junk yards and have no real problem finding fenders, hoods, and body parts and IH basically used the same cab for 20 years, just different mounts and few different fenders but I agree that their are not as many aftermarket parts but sure plenty of old junk around these parts.

Looks like it can go down the street again with out too much work. REMEMBER Get proof of ownership now. Whatever is needed, check with DMV and get it all done while g-gma is still here. Or figure out what has to be done so you have good paper. Long ago, I learned the paper/title was more valuable than some old car. Car was free and I'd pay for title. Then you are good to go....

whats a big ballpark on what you guys think I should expect to give for this truck? I know there’s a lot of unknown here but is it $500, $1000, $5000? I don’t expect to get a deal because this is a very large family.

I should have said my expectations are that it was running when it was parked 20 years ago. Other than that don’t know much yet so that question is probably not valid.
