what backhoe's are compatible?

Hello,

I am fairly new to tractors. I am picking up a 69 Ford 3400. It does not have a backhoe with it. I know they were set up to come with ford 750 backhoes. Those do not seem to be very easy to find. Is there any other backhoes that fit on without much modification? Are most ford backhoes able to fit on other fords or are they pretty specific?

pretty much all 3 point backhoes fit as long as the gph of the pump will keep up if they came with a 750 I probley stay around that size I have a 950 on my 75hp tractor
 
750 backhoe can be very difficult to find. I was dickering with a guy a few years ago on one and he sold it right in the middle. Someone came in with cash and he played me as a hole card and got full price. I found one a few months ago on CL but it was delisted before I could call him. I have a Ford 1520 and would have a lot of use for a backhoe to fit it or the 300U.
 
Go onto the New Holland parts web site and look at the 750 series backhoes so you can see the mounting system. That way when you find one you will be able to see if it is complete. If your tractor has a Ford loader the valve system may already be plumbed to supply a backhoe. There will be two large lines going to the rear axle area, and capped off. There were three dig depths available depended on the boom and dipstick.
 
If you want to use the 1520 you need to get a backhoe that has a sub frame like the units New Holland sells. We had a couple customers wreck their machine using just plain old 3pt hitch units. Also find one that has a PTO pump to get enough GPM to have it operate decently fast.
 
I have thought about that for a long time. It is a very useful tractor and the backhoes that fit it are not easy on/off. I really don't want to put a hoe on such a small tractor and decrease it's usefulness. Something on a 300U or similar would work good for me though. Not to big or small.

A three pint hitch backhoe is better than a pick and shovel. A mounted backhoe is better than a three point hitch backhoe .
