Im trying to find the year on this BF Avery A. Where is the serial number located on it and on the engine it needs a new crankshaft. I am in Indiana.

Ok than you is it located on the inside? Im trying to figure this out because it is the orange color and with two wheels up front. Also I need a new crankshaft or what is recommended.

The tractor serial number on mine is on the top of the right frame rail at the mount bracket.
When I got mine a bolt had been welded over the area to repair a broken mount bracket. Fortunately, it was a sloppy farmer's weld and I was able to recover the serial number that was under the bolt.
By the way both rear frame brackets were broken. I assume from the engine torque twisting he frame. I had the same with a Massey Harris 81 with a similar frame attachment design.

Numbers face up on the right side frame rail (in the vicinity of the drivers feet or back a bit, and if I remember correctly, they are stamped in with fairly
large numbers but not stamped deeply. Start scratching and scraping, you should find them.

The B F Moline was same as the model R avery that was the largest of the Avery line with the smallest the V. But I wonder if what he has might be the R as they did have dual front wheels but I have never heard of or seen a A with dual front wheels.

Orange does not sound right, The avery line was red, The General that became the Avery A was yellow (and also the Wards Twin Row that was the General later the A was also red) and later the Avery V and R that became the Moline in the V and BF and BG (BG was a single row offset version of the BF) were moline yellow. I never heard of an Avery A having the 2 wheels up front. Only the V as it was a 1 row cultivating vegetable tractor or the largest in the line that became the Moline BF and was avaible with dual front trycical front wheels or wide front. How many speeds does it have 3 or 4? The A only had 3 speeds while I think the R or BF had 4.

Hi Brad ..... below is a link to an article in the history section here at YT, some information in there you might be interested in. Both B
F Avery and Cletrac Generals are mentioned in there. It would be nice to look at a photo if you can post one.

Thank you all for the replies and knowledge. I will try to post a picture in a couple days on it and the front two tires are set up like a farmall h not the wide front. The color on this BF Avery is like a yellow orange like that of the general. I will look for the serial number and take a few pictures of it. Here is a picture of the head.
