Talk About A Barn Find

Here is what followed me home. I bought this older 930 from a fellow
in the boonies in SW Ks. Was looking at his stuff. It was like a
living history museum. In the old barn was this high wheel wooden
grain wagon. Supposedly the guys grandparents from Ohio drove the
wagon out here and used it on the farm. Always stored inside. The
guy said it had last been put where is was resting in 1958 or 1959.
He couldn't remember which. Still in excellent condition. He was
fairly certain it had never spent a night outside. Bob

WOw, very cool!

But if they drove it out from Ohio little house on the prairie style, it spent a night or two under the stars on the trip :)

WOW that's an awesome find bob, looks like you could hook up the team and head to town for a cold one  did you get the reach pole and double tree too? klair & weidner would be the wagon builders? now you need a team of clydsdales or 4 up to pull that

The 930 was drove in the shed in 2005. It is perfect straight. All the lights work. Haven't started it yet, but did put a battery in and turn it over. 3 nice tires but unfortunately one had went down. He also has a very nice 600lp.

Bobl,

Wow, wow, wow! Man, that is gorgeous!!

We'd keep it just as it is...
but it's your wagon, to paint or not paint.

Not many of those left in original condition. Good find. My friend has one similar to that made by the Studebaker co. Always stored inside also. Stan

I did get the tongue and neck yoke if that is what you are refering
to. Could not come up woth the seat or the evener, but I have both
anyway. Bob

I would never paint it for sure. It is still filthy from sitting inside all those years. I need to figure the best way to clean it. I heard distilled water will bring out the paint and clean it up good, but don't know that for certain.

Plus, on top of that, I'm not sure this wagon would be old enough to have come out that far back. The guy wasn't positive his Grandparents brought it, but they definately came from Ohio so he is pretty confident that is how they got here since the name on the side.

nice 930! that one deserves to be left original also. never saw one with those big wheel weights.

I too question it's age but that doesn't matter. It's still a very nice find. Southwest Kansas is pretty dry so things like that wagon keep well.

Is it a 38" box on a 56" tread gear or a 42" box on a 60" tread gear. One in my family that was the old wagon in 1906 when Great grandpa died. So 112 years since my grandpa inhearted it from his dad. May have been 50-60 years old at that time.

There were actually many sold here with the big fenders. Most sold around here by Zoladek & Sons out of Kremlin, Ok. Probably see more big fenders than round, here anyway. Bob

Nice wagons! Right away I was looking for splices in the outside wooden pieces on the wheels, I don't see very many, recently we had a discussion about that.

When I had my fuel business back in the 1970's and 80's I saw a few of those wagons sitting in barns. I hope they are still inside. On the tractor, my pal has 1 of them. He said they were made to ship to the mid east then for some reason the contract was cancelled. Someone please correct this if it is not true, but he has told me that story several times.

Pa was a blacksmith and brought a lot of wheelwright stuff to the farm in ?58. If I recall the rim is 2 pieces of green white oak steamed and formed in halves. Drilled for spokes and the steel tire shrunk onto the oak rim.

There were a bunch of 1070's that were sold around us that were a cancelled over seas shipment. They had the wide fenders and no cab. I've never heard anything on the 30 series tho.

Love that wagon We used a triple box like that with an endgate seeder into the '60s.Still got the spring seat.
