Peanut seed

I am looking for enough peanut seed to plant 10 acres or more. Yes I know about google but all that showed up there are oz. and lb packages. I need someone who has see in the bulk. How about some of the members here?

I purchased a bag of raw peanuts from the grocery store and planted them. Only problem was that they were Virginia Peanuts and didn't mature because my growing season was too short. I should have planted Spanish Peanuts instead.

How do the maturity days work on peanuts ? Is it like corn and a day equals temps over 75 degrees

You would need 1000 lbs. or so according to the rate that is being planted where I am in sw ga. I think the rates on twin rows are now up to 135-140#/acre depending on seed size. Different varieties have different maturity days, but cool weather slows them all down. Birdsong should be able to sell you seed.

Johnny , I had already decided we need over a thousand lbs. I will try that Birdsong , and thanks for the lead. Has to be someone somewhere that has bags .

Are you looking to grow peanuts for the nut or for cattle forage?
There is a difference.

Although it may be mute point because I do not know that forage peanuts will grow as far north as you are.

Lots of peanuts grown in SE VA down around Waverly and Wakefield,my grandfather used to successfully grow peanuts in Fairfax County VA just across the river from DC.

John actually both.. My Grandfather use to grow them for the nuts so do think we have long enough growing season but also looking at something that produces a lot of green stuff. Our normal rotation is Corn one year , then sow winter wheat after the corn is harvested, then after the wheat is combined early July plant soybeans for fall harvest. However we are always having small fields get left out for one reason or the other and I am thinking I will try some peanuts.

dvt Williams is one of the reasons I am having problems locating seed. That company controlled the peanut market in about four states ( Tex. Okl. Ark. & Miss) They filled for bankruptcy in 2015 and has that market in a turmoil. Think I have found some in Alabama.
