I-H SUPER W-6 NO POWER

I have a Super W-6 , when I pull with it I run out of power, so I changed to electronic ignition and put a propane manifold is their anything else that is possible without going into engine I have not pulled since I added these things

If you can hook it to a dyno through the pto, would be the way to go for trying to solve the problem.

Simply put, "you can't get there from here" Your Super W-6 is approx. 47 HP and approx. 5500 lbs. Everyone else's 5500lb tractor has 10-20 more HP. That is a big spread. You need to spend a whole lot of money, on the motor, and still have a lot of weight , or get something that is lighter to start with.

Showcrop is correct

How much do you wanna spend if you wanna spend $$$
thousands you can get the results you are looking for
Before dumping $$$ thousands in a boring super w6
Look for something someone is selling for a great price and
you will be way money ahead

I bought a really nice super mta that has 80
Hp in the dyno for $2500 just have to look around

tractor weighs 6400# pulling in 5500 to 6500# class,is it possible to change jet in carb and gain some

cannot spend lot of money,i am in a small club like to keep it as close to farm stock as possible. I have a T/A clutch also on this tractor I rebuilt it and in 2nd gearwith T/A ingauged still smothers out don't know if plugs are right D18Y

If you can get it on a PTO dyno and then have someone there who knows how to tune the engine to get maximum power from it, this should "wake up" your tractor enough to enable it to pull in 6000, 6500 lb.antique stock classes and not embarrass you. Super W-6's when they came out were pretty "healthy" tractors in their day. If your tractor's engine isn't in decent shape though, nothing short of an overhaul will help you....whether you can afford it or not........

how far are u pulling down the track?? very simple... use low gear. i have never seen a w6 pulling in 2nd. gear on a track. of course you will run out of power , but at how many feet down the track? i have watched and pulled them and have never seen one spin out. if you want to use second gear then you neeed a 660.

I pull regularly in first gear, without the T/A which is normal gear ratio for W-6,it should spin out before luging down,i think.we don't use weights or water in tires

(quoted from post at 18:33:36 02/20/18) I am getting about 3/4 down the track before dying out in first gear

Give it a good tune-up and make sure the ignition timing is spot on. Also, figure out a way to check the engine RPMs. The governor may not be doing its job.

When I first brought my M home, it seemed to be rather slow. I checked the RPMs at the PTO, and found it wasn't even making 540. I adjusted the governor until I got 600 RPMs at the PTO. THAT really woke it up.

I am not a puller. I just like my tractors to run like I think they should.

The pull I work every year that tractor would be in 3 plow class against the M, SM, single stick JD A. No scales. 2 sets of factory weights or fluid, not both. No brackets to add weight for a different rull pull. 1 size over tires, only factory hitch not modified in any way. Completely stock. First gear only. and track is 300 ft long. TA not alowed to be used. This past year had so many pullers that pull ran 2 hours longer than was supposed to. Supposed to stop at 6:00 when church service starts. Starts at 12:00.

Pulls around here usually start at 9:00 and run until 6:00

I will get a tach tomorrow and check RPM . I am running high octane fuel should I be using a differenr plug mine are D18Y

It is VERY HIGHLY unlikely that your W-6 needs high octane. You will get more power on regular. Don't use high-test unless it is knocking.
