I was out enjoying the sunshine today and came back and read your post about the Walker farm. When you talk about Kroger I assume you mean the one down just north of Howell? There were other Walkers who farmed northeast of there at the end of Eager Road. Some of them still live there and are cousins to the Eager family. There are a few Eager descendants right there also. I bought the old Walker farm seven years ago. All these people are my neighbors now. Being the new guy on the block is one thing, but when your neighbors have been there 180 years you better get used to being the new guy on the block forever.

Yes, the Kroger on the N.W. corner of M-59 and Oak Grove (Michigan Ave inside city limits). Probably all cousins. If you want to get into it the Howell library has a lot of old info.

Oooo...multigenerational farm bigotry! I get it! LOL. From a Demoncrat, no less! For shame!!! :)

I'm OK with that actually. I did not want to be adopted by them and it really did not last long. There was some provocation in the beginning but I just ignored it and the worst offenders on that score now stop by and shoot the bull pretty routinely. I just kept calm about it and maintained the place a lot better than they did. The big worry in the beginning was only that I had some ulterior motive for buying the place. When it became obvious after 3-4 years that this was not the case things warmed up. Everyone is friendly now and it is rather nice. One guy talks me ear off while he inspects all my latest projects. Another rides his horses on my wood trails. They show me pictures and tell me stories. I rather like it. :)

From a Demoncrat

You don't know me at all do you? I've just got sense enough not to ever defend any politician and give up my ability to criticize them for whatever stupid thing they've done.

Sorry Randy, I just thought we were having a little fun and did not mean to cause offense. I only used "demoncrat" to get around the filters here. While I have met you at Oakley, you are right I really don't know you. Guess I should be more careful when I joke around here.

Don't worry about it. It's quite a trick to be able to fool somebody in to thinking you belong to a whole different party. A tribute to my acting skills. Where's my Academy Award? lol

Mine are,but they didn't come here until 1881 and there were already a few Danes here by then,so we're Jonnie come lately's too. lol

I had a friend die at 59. He moved here at age 3, after his father purchased a local farm. He did a lot of community things. After his funeral, I mentioned that it was a shame to lose local guys like that. Somebody corrected me, he really wasn’t local, his dad bought so and so’s farm in 56! So yeah, it’s out there.
