First picture is filling wheat seed into the Oliver No. 26 drill 16x7 behind the 1944 Farmall H. Second photo is a Gen 1 "grain cart" behind the same H. Still have the H, second farm for it. My Dad bought it off the son of the guy who bought it new. we bought it in the late 60's early 70's. Don't remember exactly what year but AFTER the '66 Chevy pickup, and BEFORE the '73. How many of the rest of you remember stuff that way?

We had a old Ontario drill that looked just about the same as the old Oliver drill in your picture. The neighbor had a Oliver that looked about the same as ours and yours in the picture. We used it until my Dad sold out in the mid 70's. The fertilizer compartment was pretty well gone but everything else worked good. We would usually seed our alfalfa along with oats with the front box seeder on it. We usually covered about 50 acers a year with the drill. I remember going through the seed compartments and flipping the little steel panels over when we went from oats to wheat and back.

My Father purchased an H Farmall sometime between our new Light Green 1966 GMC Pickup six cylinder four speed and the new Blue Chevy 1973 3/4 ton pickup...

Born in 68. Pa put a parlor on the barn in 71. I don't remember that. They said I ran my stroller into the saw horses. Tore down the old corn crib in 74 and built a new one. Long, narrow, and tall. Tore down the old chicken barn in 75 and built a new granary next to the new crib. In 76 the 770 left and a 3020 showed up. Also tore down the old wood silo on the north side and replaced it with a brand new Hanson. In 77 a new steel roof went on the barn. In 78 the super 55 and the 3020 went away and were replaced by a 2-70 and a brand new 4600 Ford w/ FEL. Also broke ground on 12 new acres in the pasture. In 79 the steer barn got new rafters and roof and Pa got a 706 NI Uni w/ combine and 2R picker. 1980 saw a NH bale wagon and a used 1520. Somewhere in there a 610 Melroe showed up also. the 70's were good to us and saw a lot of change. Several tillage implements got shuffled and replaced. 81 was quiet with the brother moving on and sister graduating. 82 saw a Schulte rock picker show up and built a rock rake. Seemed like a few miles of fence were rebuilt in those same years.

Now I can't remember the wife's birthday.

Drilled many acres with a John Deere Van Brunt 11 run drill, usually pulled an old double drum Dunham cultipacker behind it, good load for '41 Farmall H. We planted wheat in September and October (after the fly-free date) and oats with clover or alfalfa seeding in the spring, usually in April or early May. (Never planted corn before May 15th) usually Dekalb varieties like 404a, 458 and 459. (South central Michigan).

That should have been an EASY load for the Farmall. if not something was wrong with the tractor. 4th half open.

My brothers and I always get a chuckle when Mom remembers when things happened by who she was pregnant with at the time.
