1000 PTO to 540 PTO

Can a 540 PTO swather or baler, be run by a 1000 PTO tractor?

Sure, if you adjust throttle speed to get 540 on the pto. Neighbor used to round bale that way.

Some gear boxes can be rolled over to change the units operating speed.

I have round large round baled with a 540 RPM baler and 1000 RPM tractor and it is not fun. You have to run the tractor as such low RPM that you don't have adequate tractor power when you need it; i.e., pulling up hill, turning, etc. I was constantly shifting. However, if you were baling on level ground it would probably not present as much of a problem.

Yes,Just run at half throttle.Be aware,Hydralics,steering....won't work right.

You might not have enough HP at that RPM, will be a little over half speed of the engine.

It depends on the tractor, my brothers 7710 Ford has a 1000 pro rpm shaft with it. You just swap the shafts out, the 540 runs off one gear while the 1000 runs off a different gear so you can use the 1000 at normal engine speed.
