Fertilizer Tractor?

I hope the people involved in [b:818622a21e]this[/b:818622a21e] accident are Ok.
What is a fertilizer tractor and what was it doing on the road at
1:30 a.m. in February in Michigan? Seems a bit strange to me.
Maybe just the normal media mis-representation.

"Driver of tractor " sped" away from scene........"

Apparently Fertilizer Tractors are fast? Like the UDLX?

Maybe a big spray rig? They get along pretty good.

The real question is--What were two woman doing on the road at 1:30 in the morning???---Tee

Friday night/Saturday morning at 1:30. I have a couple ideas.
Fertilizer tractor? February? In Michigan? Not so much.

Hope the Gals are gonna be Alright,.. sheesh ! what kind of stupid reporting is
that ,.. thats like reporting a baler as a (BAILER) when it really is a
combine! . Shux We Have Guys on here that Could Report The news aHaleuvalot
better than that ,. and would ask the smart Questions Like Big TEE does .. LOL
.Btw .. too many of you so called farm boys are calling them idiot squares
(bails) ,. and sum of ya dont like how i type and spell ,.,wel at least act
like ya know the difference between a bale of straw and what ya do when thar is
too much dam water coming in the boat

"Could be a liquid manure field injection rig."

I've never used one. Do they work in frozen ground?
We certainly used spreaders when the ground was frozen.
It was a much better time than getting stuck in the mud.

Well last week we applied bedding pack manure at all night for two nights. The ground was clear of snow and would freeze after about Midnight. The tractor and spreader both have warning lights plus strobes light on the cab.

Such a poorly reported piece that who knows what went on.

Probably a fertilizer spreader like a
Terra-Gator. Some people don't know the
name of any type of equipment and just call
it what they think it is. Like when the
news calls an excavator or dozer a backhoe.
Since the road I live on is the only bridge
over the river for 6 miles unless you go
across on the highway, there is always a
lot of farm equipment going by here to get
over the river. Been quite a few Terra-
Gators that have went by lately, they've
been spreading quite a bit around here,
mostly turkey manure.

Correct name or not the Fertilizer whatever driver is already guilty of leaving the scene of an accident, doesn't matter he returned later. He'd better hope he had correct lighting
which in most places is required on any equipment being on the road at night. With things being like they are in today's time I can't imagine moving equipment after dark without
someone in a vehicle behind me with the emergency flashers on at the very least.

I have at least one smv always visible and use magnetic flashing lights and I put dot tape on the rear of everything I try to have someone follow me whenever possible and its still scary moving equipment with the idiot drivers on the road who don?t care about anybody but themselves

A friend of mine used to work on Terra-Gators, he said some of them can go 60 mph.

349 people 'like' that story so far.

What is there to like about news like this?

It's not well written, and it's about an accident, we don't know how the people are yet.

What is to 'like' about it?

I don't understand social media!

I'd say you're right about some drivers so that's why its very important to do things carefully and legally as those same people will be the first ones to get a liability
lawyer when they're involved in an accident.Just the world we live in today. And being considerate if you're moving equipment is important too.I haul a lot of hay over a couple busy roads here with very few places to pass so when I get to the spots I can easily get off the road I do to let the traffic by.I've had a lot of people tell me they appreciated me doing that.

Traditional farmers around here work all hours of the day when field conditions are so they can. Combines were in the corn all night long this fall. Large tractors with huge grain carts on the road all hours of the night. Farms with livestock have haul manure when they can get in the field without getting stuck inbetween freezing and thawing as well as getting it turned under or mixed in. Some of the farms buy bulk fertilizer and have to spread it under the same circumstances. The time of day can not dictate when you do this work only the weather.

I didn't say not to work at night just said if you move equipment at night it better be lighted legally and I'd never go down a state road without an escort at night might cost some money
and be aggravating but I can tell you one day in court with a couple lawyers is a whole lot more expensive.Plus there is no excuse for leaving the scene of an accident you are involved in
regardless night or day.

There is a company here that does spraying for the local ag folks. The Terragators go thru town a lot. I know they will go at least 35 mph,
because I?ve followed them, and vice versa. Kinda interesting being in a small car, and looking up at those things, it could Almost go over you
without touching....:)

Supposed to rain tomorrow. Probably a Terre Gator getting nitrogen on wheat or potash on alfalfa while the ground is half way frozen on top.

Dick L, sounds like you farm like most of us do, my eq moves more at night than day.....and Traditional Farmer no escort, eq these days are lite at there widest point about six feet high with red and amber lites, turn signals and flashers, at the top of the tractor and eq is a amber beacon lites very well lite up. tractors are slow about twenty mph, people see the flashing lites and dont slow down quick enough and hit the escort truck killing that person, they are going to hit you let them hit your eq

Even in the daytime I've found that people in cars won't back off a piece of equipment or tractor nearly as quick as a car or pickup with the emergency flashers on for some reason. And a
flashing light on top the cab seems to really help slow down things.Think a lot of them see a tractor as a challenge to run up on and fly by.

I agree, with good lighting and escort vehicle is just making the whole deal a longer harder to pass convoy. The tractors I run on the road have better lighting than many of my trucks, specifically to stand out since they are travelling slower than traffic. We aren't talking about transporting your little grey Ferguson with nothing but an smv and a dim 6 volt worklight, in that case yes an escort in back would be a good idea.

The lighting law in Idaho the last time i looked was one headlight for the front and an smv for the back a red reflector and a red tail light so I always have way more than the law requires . Sometimes I find it better to move at night because with all the lights and reflectors I think it confuses drivers enough they slow down for you where in the day they come up behind 70 mph and then try to push you off the road . I also try to let cars go buy whenever possible

Doesn't look like a terragator to me. A terragator is taller and the frame would take the hit so there wouldn't be semi-solid manure all over the road. I wonder if the tractor took off to find a phone.
