Not Sure If Happy or ------

My wife had a flat tire yesterday. The tires are about a year old. I took it to my tire place and they looked it up on their computer and I had bought the tire road hazard warranty so they fixed it for free. Well I never buy any type of extended warranty ever. When I had the new tires put on I drop my wife off and she paid for it and brought it home. I didn't look at the receipt. I pulled the receipt from my car file and sure enough we had bought the coverage. Sort of ------ me off because they added it without asking and I wasn't paying attention that day. But in the end I got the tire fixed. So the one time in the past 30 years I bought the extended warranty I actually used it.

How much was the warranty compared to the price of the tire? I also hate when they up sell and sneak something in 🌡

Well, I look at extended warranty like life insurance. If I buy it, my preference is not to collect and use it.

The warranty was $10 per tire so $40 total. They fixed the tire with an internal patch/plug. So I am probably still behind by $10.

The tire shop that I use doesn't charge to fix flats if they are their brand or a brand they sell. Usually they will fix any tire I bring in without charge. They call it goodwill :D

Most chain tire shops do free repair with or without warranty.

But very seldom will they do a repair, more money in sales than repair.

I collected a little on a road hazard warranty once, the tire was obviously ruined, cut sidewall. At first they were not going to warranty it, claimed abuse.

But how do you draw the line between a hazard and abuse?

After a good deal of arguing they finally relented, still cost about $30, and that was when tires were $50.

I generally don't buy extended warranty either. Last car the wife got we purchased it. Good thing too as the left front axle had something go wrong and made a noise after the original warranty on it would of been out.

An internal repair is more than $10 down here.
More work, remove from vehicle, break at least one bead, patch and reseat bead.
Must have been not merely a nail or else the would have just plugged it while on the car from outside.

I don't like the warranties because I normally buy tires one at a time when I need them and never know which tire was bought where.

My tire place fixes the tires for free - but you pay for road hazard to get tires replaced that can't be patched. Since I started buying tires there I haven't paid to fix a tires in years - even on tires that I didn't buy there.

Well my boy I bought Mrs Jocco some lifetime warranty on her wedding ring and other jewelry. It has paid off big time.

Putting a plug in a tire is something you can do yourself with a $10.00 kit. Warranties are useful when it's a sidewall or a big hole that can't be patched. Many of the tires I've bought come with a road hazard warranty with the purchase at no extra charge.
