Getting my upper body workout this afternoon!

I adjusted all the knives out on the 790 NewHolland chopper this week and this afternoon I'm torquing the bolts. 200' pounds with a 1/2 inch drive torque wrench. 24 bolts down 24 more to go (needed a sit down!). They'll need replaced next time as they're now at the end of the slots. New shear bar , crop guide plates, smooth roller scraper& support new sharpening stone and a seal kit for the pickup lift cylinder so hopefully the corn head doesn't creep this fall. Put new chains belts and replaced the blower bearings last year so other than the knives she'll hopefully be good for awhile.

The tighter the clearance on the ledger to the knives the cheaper it runs on power and fuel. Chops finer also. I used to make them tick when turned by hand. Could chop corn to about a half inch with no screen and hay to about 2 inches. For ground ear corn we used a 3/4 hole size screen with the screen just so the knives would turn by hand on the ledger and screen. Looked like it came through a feed grinder when done. Cob and all.

(quoted from post at 07:37:55 01/27/18) Lol my mind says yes my knees say noooo!

I started doing squats to build my legs back up after knee surgery, and have kept doing them every morning as I shave. But I am only a 68 year old youngster.
