United States 2017 Census of Agriculture

I sent mine in,but I feel sorry for the person who has to read it. I hope they aren't overly Christian.

I send mind back ... ask them what kind of a "JOKE " is this ... I told them I had 9 cats & 9 chickens and some wild life on my acreage ....

I put mine where I have for the last forty odd years, round file. Not anyone's business what I can grow or store.

25 years ago the ASCS office had this form that they wanted to know how much corn/grain your could store on your farm. So I took the area of the farm times 10 foot deep divided by 1.25 and came up with Around 12 million bushels IRC. LOL the woman running the office at the time was not please with that answer. I told her I could put corn/grain ten foot deep on the entire farm IF I wanted too.

Think about it. They want to know your planted/harvest acres. Then they know your yields because of your need to report for crop insurance. So then they wanted to know how many bushels you could store. SO the grain merchants would know exactly how many bushels you HAD to sell each fall. They could then offer lower prices.

Amen JD Seller. Been saying that since I saw the first Sensless. As a young man I could never see how this could possibly help farmers.

I did send mine in. did it infront of my office puter so had access to some of info asked for. There was a fair bit of SWAG
involved in the rest. If the gubment really wants to know this stuff they have access to the info needed anyway.

I ran accost it yesterday in my not quite sure what to do with it pile of mail. I thought about it and just decided to wait until they send a guy to my house. Like last time I'll just tell him everything is the same as the last time I did one.

I got 2 notices. First was a letter, intended for internet transactions, didn't involve a "package" and was due in Julyish time frame.

Second was a package with a multi-page form to fill out and was due Feb. 7. According to the instructions, responding IS required by
law!!!!!!!

I filled out the package and in it, per the instructions, attached a copy of the information associated with the first notification so that the
government will cancel the first solicitation and not come looking for "their answer from me" at a later date.

I did have to finish my income taxes for 2017 before I could fill in some of the blanks. Really not as inquisitive as I had first imagined. I can
see the information is necessary in the government's planning of their agricultural support/result expectations on crop performance
strategies.

Yeah the government is sticking their nose in your business, but for you guys getting Farm Subsidies.........................

Ive already got the reminder postcard, and I have filled it out, but don't like too. The one yr I didn't fill it out and threw it in trash they called the house and asked me if I needed help filling it out. I told her that I don't like the usda because they are one of the biggest wasteful spenders in the country. Now it says it's the law on the front. After reading these post I might not send it in.

Last one I got, I noticed that it said (on the front) that it was required by law to fill it out. Some folks said that it was just like the census; that it was wrong not to answer. However, last time census guy was here, he gave me a choice to answer all, some or none. I gave him "some" - what was already easily-obtained public information. He left happy.

(quoted from post at 02:40:11 01/21/18) Anyone else filling this thing out, or am I the only sucker? Wish I had all my tax info ready already.

I did it. Mainly to go on record that raising llamas is still a part of US agriculture, tiny but we are still out there.

Well, that was a mixed bag of responses, kinda like I expected. I fill them out, partly because of the threat to pester me if I didn't, and partly to add some info. We are all not BTOs out here, far more small-timers like me.
